Kobe Steel scandal: bike parts too?
« on: 10 October, 2017, 02:04:02 pm »
Kobe Steel has admitted falsifying test results for aluminium and copper which their customers would have otherwise rejected. So far there's talk of car manufacturers being affected: Toyota, Honda, Subaru, Mazda, Mistubishi, Ford and GM. But I'm wondering if any manufacturers of bike parts might be affected?

For what use was the metal being used?  And what tests are we talking about?

If it is aluminium and copper then might it be for electrical purposes and tests are more for purity (electrical properties) rather than dynamic properties such as strength? (Agree that purity could also affect dynamic properties)

I would also assume the users of the material would be carrying out the occasional check on incoming batches as part of the QC process.

I hate poor QC; I loathe falsified/hidden results >:(
