Little survey backing up what I have heard anecdotally many times, too scared to ride

Will be used as evidence by the "let's build lots of facilities" and "let's blame everything on cars" people

madcow:
There are many aspects of "confidence " though , that merit further questioning.
It could  road safety confidence, confidence that turning up to work on a bike won't make you seem like some kind of loser, or confidence that you could actually manage to cycle  the 2, 3 or whatever number of miles from home to workplace.

Some people may actually be blaming other drivers as an excuse for not doing anything. It is a challenge now to get those waverers on to 2 wheels.

Cycling organisations need to demonstrate the "safety in numbers " idea that more cyclists will get more road respect, because everyone will eventually know or be related to someone cycling to work AND get employers to make cycling to work normal, by installing proper bike parking facilities etc.

David Martin:
It will be used as evidence by anyone and everyone.

woollypigs:
Along with more cycle training would do wonders too, there is plenty of cyclist out there who could use some.

I totally agree but like David Martin says the evidence is very much anything you want it to be

The "fact" is that people are scared or not confident to ride about.

And as 1.2 million people die each year in road traffic accidents it's probably best to be safe than sorry
