Tarp poles - again I bet!
« on: 24 July, 2018, 01:54:06 pm »
Can't find it so I'll ask it but reckon there's been threads about it before.

I need a decent set of tarp poles for a square tarp used as an extended porch. I want 4 and they need to cope with lifting a 4m or 3m square tarp to reasonable heights (1.5m at least I reckon). What do you suggest?

I've seen some at 220cm but looking at them they don't look string (spotted the 7.25mm diameter bit just before buying them). I've been pointed at tatonka tarp stange at 23mm diameter seem very strong (600 to 1000g weight each!).

I would have thought a decent 12mm aluminium alloy pole should suffice.

Any suggestions?

It's extra to a decent porch sized tent in case it's hot. The idea is they become an easy shelter from the sun without getting too hot. Recent hot spells here it's been great creating a cooler spot underneath it.

So IMHO msr poles would cost a lot. A lot of the cottage industries probably won't have stock and lead time beats us (tour fast approaching).

They'll be more comfortable if he has to fashion a bike frame out of them!

Seen their stock, too short or too long. About 115cm then big jump to 240cm. I need right in the middle of the two. Thanks for the suggestion. My usual places are UOG, Alpkit, BPL-UK, etc. Great for low down tarp use or high up pyramid tarp use.

I'm looking for porch use so want a higher tarp but the pyramid tarps are too high. Actually it's a big tarp, too big, but it's great under it on hot sunny days. Feels cooler sat on grass in the shade.

Did not Rich Forrest post some time ago on canopies and suitable poles?

There was some discussion of poles on The Tarp-tagged-onto-your-tent Thread

My one of these is still going well:
