No, it was just Ned and David (on the highlights at least). They explained why at the end of the programme and ran a montage of Chris Boardman's family photos alongside the text of his tribute.

I cried my eyes out.

Gary Imlach said at the beginning of the live coverage that Chris had had to go home "because of a family emergency", details of which were left out.  Elaboration was left for the end of the highlights show by which time the news had got out anyway.

Didn`t see the Highlights Sunday so found out by FB post. Truly dreadful news, feeling a combination of very upset and very angry and very aware of own vulnerability out cycling. Just some momentary impatience / inattention by a driver of a lethal weapon has destroyed a life and devastated a wonderful family who have given their lives to cycling.
No wonder many of children I`ve recently started cycle road training are frightened of cars, what effect will this dreadful event have on them?

Carol Boardman RIP and my thoughts are with Chris and rest of his family.

Why should anybody steal a watch when they can steal a bicycle?

Most inspiring - I now feel even more motivated to stick two fingers to anyone wanting to discourage my cycling, or endanger us through their negligence and selfishness
