I am a bit surprised there is not a thread about this ride (unless I have missed it) so I thought I would start one to see if we can generate some discussion.

I lke the idea of an overnight audax but, as a full value rider who only has one 300km completed in the last season, I would have preferred it to be in the warmer months. I am still tempted to enter as the climbing seems managable and you have to challenge yourself right?

Are there any places where hot food can be obtained during the first 100km? _ I notice that there is a 24 hour McDomalds in Amesbury which might be a possibility if not too far off route.

(Purely IMHO, if the weather is decent it's reasonable to do the first 100 of a 300km without a proper stop - and yes I am often full value! Frankly if the weather is iffy, i doubt I would start this event. not in late Nov. )

I'm seriously considering the ride. And seriously considering being sensible and having a good night's sleep instead

Like you any participation would be weather dependent. I have been lucky on my last two (Blacksheep) 200's and so have not really got into Winter riding mode yet.

I think the 24 hour McDonalds and garage at Amesbury (Solstice Services) is on route. Also 24 hour garage and supermarket in Salisbury. So there are options.

An overnight calendar event at this time of year is certainly a rarity and a bit of a bonus. I'm looking forward to it, but will be watching the weather forecast carefully!....

I should enter this

300km overnight in November is perhaps a bit more audacious than I'd like but you have to occasionally push it
Will not start if it looks like heavy rain/gales/ice

I didn't even bother looking on the route for what 24h facilities there are. I'm sure ACB knows some delightful places

Too far to travel for me but I'm a fan of a winter 300.

I've ridden overnight 300s in October and January before now and might keep an eye on the weather for this weekend. Nice cool dry night with a full moon - a 300 could be just the ticket!

It'll toughen us all up ahead of any long and difficult events in 2019.

Solstice Park, Amesbury with it's 24hr MDs and garage is the first control at 80ishkm. Next is food provided at 160ishkm at Lilliput Sea Scouts. After that (in daylight more than likely) 24hr garage at Podimore then Strawberry Line Cafe not far from finish but will be open early for the quick riders.

The Co-Op (Petrol station shop) at Solstice park is 24 hrs and has two Costa coffee machines and a wide range of food products.

It's much quicker going in there than waiting in McD's.

I've been in there several times in the dead of night during various Brimstone/Hellfire rides. Recommended if you're in a hurry ...

At the moment I'm thinking that £13.50 is a lot to bet on decent weather in late November. I might wait until next week and send Will a begging letter if the forecast looks good

Cards will be ordered Monday 19th. I have family stuff at the end of that week that is one of those unplanned for events so no begging will help I'm afraid.

I route checked my overnight 400 on Saturday night. The forecast was 14hrs of persistent rain at quite a high intensity, strong winds/gusts with temps dropping to about 2oC around 5-6am - Weather Bagel & Epic Ride Weather.

Needless to say there were 2 showers, clear skies, low wind and it was rather warm.

My tailbone is less of an issue now, I only notice it when 'rolling over it' doing a sit up or something. My lower back is more annoying. Probably see my physio next week to see if I can do anything about it.
I'm still down two road bikes though so I may end up doing this on my old TT bike (just like the 2015 PBP qualifying).

I did not enter either as I may have to work next weekend (feeble excuse).

I hope that the weather next weekend is as good as it has been this week for those intrepid souls who did enter.
