Me I like HP (standard not fruity) and Hammonds. Its not a a bacon sarnie without brown sauce.
-
It has to be HP. I don't care if it's made my clog-wearing, edam-munching Dutchies these days. It's got Parliament on the front and frankly, given the current crop of dullards that inhabit it, it's the best thing about our Parliament.
Oh, and none of that fruity nonsense.

This ^
I tried boycotting it for a while after they moved the production, but that really wasn't working for me. (Principles.... errr... :-[ )

Shame there's no double vote, HP Fruity and Hammonds Chop (which according to my old man is getting harder to find, but that could just be where the OAP's shop :) )

I would vote for HP standard and Hammonds if I could vote twice.
-
None of the above.

I rarely use a brown sauce anymore as I quite like the taste of food without it. I've never tried 'Daddies' but the branding leaves me a bit meh. What's going on with the name? Is it from the Yorkie-not-for-girls school of marketing?

I doubt it since the product was launched in 1904. Given the state of Edwardian advertising it was probably something horribly sickly sweet.
-
Daddies always sounds like the sort of product used by people who you wouldn't let babysit your kids.
My only problem with HP is that it makes my head sweat which allegedly isn't a good look.
-
HP is default but Daddies will do at a pinch. I am even happy with the generic stuff that greasy spoons serve up with snout tubes.
-
Work of Stan. End of.
-
HP of course. Although I did rather enjoy Daddies when I went for tea at some of my poorer school friends (Council) houses....
-
How can you eat a cornish pasty without brown sauce? And it has to be HP (notwithstanding that those are my RL initials, leading to MUCH hilarity, obv)
-
There can be only one!
Having asked for HP sauce, almost apologetically at a Texan airport, and ending up with A1 steak sauce (poor substitute), imagine my delight in Toronto airport asking the same question, to be met with "of course we have honey, bee right back"
There were some good things to come out of the empire, overall
-
Generally I hated all the ex-pat shit - if you like baked beans that much, stay in Britain. All those whingers going on about things 'not being the same.' There's a fucking obvious solution. HP sauce was the exception though, I would happily pay grossly inflated prices. As would any sane person on discovering the closest US equivalent is the miserable A1 steak sauce (basically it's like cheap HP sauce diluted to almost homeopathic strength).
-
The drive along the Aston Expressway (A38M) used to be a olfactory treat. You would drive past the Ansells Brewery with its hoppy aroma wafting in the air and then be hit by the exotic, pungent smell of the HP Sauce factory. Ansells was closed when the management orchestrated a strike in the early 80s & HP Sauce is now made in Holland.
-
Yeah, it just smells of petrochemical smog like the rest of Birmingham now.
-
When I was very little, HP was too strong for me so we had Daddies as well, but once I'd grown into it, HP.

Dunno if it's my tongue losing becoming insensitive, but most sauces seem to be losing intensity these days. My son and I used to have competitions, taking it in turn to drench Chipsters in Lea and Perrins', to see who could take the most without a drink. Nowadays you could drink the stuff neat.

..... Still the best favour crisps: plain with worcesesester sauce shaken on 'em
-
I didn't like brown sauce when I was small, so haven't bought it since. However, only the other day MrsC mentioned she'd never tried it, so I may acquire a small bottle just to see.
-
HP. Others are fake jus.
-
I,ve switched from brown sauce to Reggae Reggae sauce .... love the stuff
-
I,ve switched ..
It's made your apostrophe collapse, should have stuck with HP.
-
I'm surprised HP fruity isn't more popular.
-
HP it is.
Those of more mature years may remember Marty Feldman doing a sketch as a Charles Aznavour style singer with the song "La sauce HP" in a heavy French accent. It might be on YouTube somewhere if you look?

In the days when television actively took the piss out of anyone outside the Home Counties, Clement Freud interviewed two middle aged 'Northern Ladies' (Thora Hird/Nellie Pledge lookalikes with bat-wing specs and head scarves).
CF "What will you be cooking for dinner?"
1st NL "We've had our dinner. We've bought chicken for tea."
CF "How will you serve it?"
2nd NL "Boil it." :o
CF "With a nice sauce...?"
1st NL "HP!"
I'm paraphrasing. You might even find it on the tube BICBA to look.
Although HP is the One True Sauce, having a wooden pallette has its advantages. The generic stuff has sufficient vinegary bite that, on a local caff spam'n'egg, it tastes just as good...
-
HP for me usually.
When I was in Ireland in the summer they had a brown sauce called YR, which apparently stood for "Yorkshire Relish". I wonder if Henderson's know about them?
-
Mrs B bought 'Brown Sauce' this week.
"HP?" I inquired.
"No. The HP was in a plastic bottle so I had to buy Cross & Blackwell"
Points for Mrs B for eschewing yet more bloody plastic, but disqualified for buying ' fruity'

Often it's Sainsbury's. I'm just grateful to have brown sauce and not ketchup ;D
Clearly I'm not a connoisseur.

My mistake. It's not Cross & Blackwell, it's Branston.

They're all foul gloop.
Anyone who asks for brown (or tomato) sauce in a decent restaurant should be thrown out with extreme prejudice.

Well yes, but you've got to have something on your bacon roll from the local caff/greasy spoon/van

All you can get overseas is HPb
-
Just had a fish finger sandwich with Reggae Reggae sauce. Wonderful.

IRTA a sort of lead hydride. Which probably tastes better than brown sauce.

Suspect r-r hit the b instead of the space bar, just like I keep doing!
