need advise , insights on event details ,training from someone who has done this before. also how would it compare to LEL22 edition in terms of climbing.

Sorry, I haven't ridden it before but I guess:

1. it will be warmer
2. my route in RWGPS shows 21,000m of climbing so compare that with whatever LEL has.

It will be warmer.  I was lucky to do it in a relatively cool year (2010) where the temperature never got about 35C.  I deliberately trained in hot weather in the UK (June 2010 offered a few 30C days) and I was able to manage, although the day through Tuscany when it was at its hottest was on my limit.  It is hillier than LEL and the hills tend to be much longer - though not truly alpine there are several ascents of 5 - 10km at 6%+ and 2 or 3 very long gradually drags of 20km+.  Because the Po valley section (400km) has virtually no climbing at all - the stages that are hilly are properly hilly.

The good news is that with the average speed you do have the opportunity to take those stages steadily and recover.

I go a little less well in the heat now that I have done, which is why I am not tempted this year.  I was just about OK with 32C on PBP this year, but if I had five days like that I would struggle.

I’m undecided about aero bars for this event due to the hills, but then there is the last flat 400km. Any advice from anyone that has done it before?

I will go with Aerobars for sure, given the amount of climbing my hands will be quite sore so to be able to have a position with no pressure on the wrists is key for me. Still haven't decided on the bike, the comfy 15kg machine or a speedier thing :-).

If you can ride aerobars, why wouldn't you? I've never taken mine off and I've ridden some pretty hilly stuff (Transpyrenees and Mille du Sud spring to mind).
Weight is almost irrelevant (unless you're racing Pog up mountains) but comfort certainly is.

Is it normal for Italian events to want this much stuff? Can't say I'm super enthusiastic about sending copies of passports / ID docs around the internet for a bike ride.

- Copy of the front and back of the Sports Club Card License (valid for the year 2024) recognized by U.C.I ((International Cycling Union)

CYCLISTS NOT REGISTERED for a sports club recognized by the UCI (International Cycling Union) and/or FCI (Italian Cycling Federation):
- Copy of a personal accident and liability insurance policy (civil liability), valid in Italy and for the minimum period from 10 August to 25 August 2024, translated into Italian or English.
