Was this rider the guy with the charity sign on his back?

If so, that was some recovery - he was trying to ponce a lift off me at Houyet  :D.

That's him, but he says he did pack.

I was chatting to him on the second day, and he mentioned that he'd seen us sleeping and took a photo. Only fair, as I took photos of the other lot asleep. Then he said "I also videoed you", which is possibly the most disturbing thing anyone said to me on the ride - thankfully it didn't make the cut.

Good Lord.
That means I've managed a AAA SR this year  :o

Me too! Makes up for DNS-ing Hamilton's hilly 400.

Reading this, I've decided I don't fancy The Highlands audax with pishy rain and full on hurricane force winds. Next year I'll be heading to Europe for a continental audax with great weather and great riding buddies. This summer, my buddy was great but the weather was God Awful.

He packed due to a failure with his GPS.

Aye, that's what he says, but he looked well fucked at Houyet.

Is it just Matt who has been credited with the AAA points for this?

You may have to individually claim it from Steve - there's nothing to say it's that ride on your results, after all - "Overseas 1000" could be anything, and Steve won't necessarily know who rode it.

I *thought* that AAA points for a calendar route that doesn't otherwise bear them were subject to an individual claim along with your own GPX.

This is an area I'm almost entirely ignorant of though.

Yes, I believe that's right. Having reread Steve's email, there's nothing there to imply he'd go hunting down other riders.

(Although in theory he could - like most AUKs, I have only ridden 1 event over 600km, and it's obvious what it is and which riders also finished.)

Right, assuming no one else is going to, I'll email the AAA man the list of riders and ask if he's willing/able to cross-reference the AAA points. I guess he's not an avid follower of yacf...

fboab already did this, I think - but it was "complicated". She's washing her bike - she'll be along shortly  ;D

Hi Steve,
I rode the Borders of Belgium 1000 with Matt Chambers.
I understand he's claimed AAA for it- could I have some too?

Hi Lindsay,

My pleasure, and thanks for the list. I’ll add the AAA points for other people too if they ask me.

"If they ask me" appears to be the key phrase. I'll ask him directly!

Looks like actual brevet cards are required for the ISR but I can't remember having received mine for this ride. I can see that I mailed Rohnny a year ago but no reply.  Did you receive yours?

Yeah, I received mine. Not that long after the event IIRC?

Sorry, but I checked again and there seems to be no mail regarding brevet cards in my mailbox.
Everyone should have gotten their brevet cards back from our national organisation: randonneurs.be, not via the organizer.

This is the link to the result page on Randonneurs.be.
http://files.webklik.nl/user_files/2009_12/85505/BRM%202016/Wachtebeke1000%2020160901.pdf

I hope this can help you to get your ISR.
If not, try to contact Randonneurs.be via this email address: randonneurs.be@hotmail.com
Maybe they can get you a certificate that you successfully completed the Borders of Belgium in 2016 .

Kind regards, Rohnny

Ditto.

I couldn't say where mine is right now, but I think mine turned up quite soon after too. (or at least sooner than PBP ones ever did!)

From the facebook group:

We are looking for some volunteers to lend a hand during the organization of the Borders of Belgium. This is a 1000 km bike ride which will be held from Thursday 6 september to Sunday 9 september 2018. People who got some free time for 1 or 2 days at one of the two control sites to help.
One control is in the province of Luxembourg; the other control is in the South of West Flanders or the North of Limburg.
The main tasks at the checkpoints are helping in the kitchen at supper and breakfast (you don’t have to be a gourmet chef; we already have excellent cooks), show the participants their sleeping place and handing out bagdrops.
There is a compensation for the travel costs in Belgium.
More info via: bordersofbelgium@gmail.com
Thanks!

(I remember being very confused by this "province of Luxembourg" business   ! )
