Mens National Road Race 2010
« on: 28 June, 2010, 02:13:25 pm »
I had a trip out to see this event, It was quite difficult to reach the start/finish, requiring a 2.5 km walk. It was very scenic and very hot, clashing with the football couldn't have helped spectator numbers, which was a pity as it was a good day out. The TV cameras were set up for a sprint finish, which after 15 laps of a hilly course was never going to be on the cards. Less than 15 of the 130 starters finished, most either pulling out or being lapped.

It was a great day out. Sadly we missed the end of the women's race because we took the scenic route over the Nic (by car I should add) to get to the car park. Standing outside the pub in the sunshine watching great racing was enhanced by knowing that a crowd were packed into the pub watching a crap football game.  ;D

Nice film - I expected to see more people on the climbs.

My photos of the day are here including a few of the womens race:

I went to Blacko first, as I was on my motorbike. That was a good spot as the descent over the bridge was spectacular, there was a good climb, the turn added interest and the tower was a good feature. The wind was a significant factor, giving the three man Sky breakaway a big advantage. I was amazed how noisy a peloton of carbon bikes with deep section rims can be on a descent.

My pics can't compete with Damons film or JTs pics sadly, they are both great and really capture the day  :)
