24.2 mm Seatpost for a Peugeot
« on: 18 September, 2008, 11:42:16 am »
I've just measured the seatpost of the Peugeot frame I'm trying to build up into a working bike, which suggested I'd need 24.2 mm, although a google search suggests 24.0 mm is more common for old Peugeot frames.  It also seems that seat posts in these sizes are as rare as rocking horse poo.  I have had a look at some of the cycle websites (eg Spa cycles / SJS) but so far the only thing I've discovered is a B'Twin seatpost in 23.4 mm.  Any hints were use I could find something that would fit the frame or even better, does anyone hiding in the shed?  If nothing else works it seems like I'll end up having to use the 23.4 mm B'Twin seatpost and a shim.

I had this problem with my Peugeot, in the end the only thing I could do was to use a BMX seatpost with a shim, which worked ok.

How did you measure it? I've never managed to get the correct size using Vernier callipers. Good luck with this one.

Ah, right.  BMX seatpost it may be then.  Where do you end up getting yours from, NSTN?

I used some very accurate imperial calipers that are meant to give readings to 0.001 of an inch & then convert the figure to metric.  I also tested this method by measuring the seatpost size of from another bike that I knew was 27.2 mm

Good luck finding one, I had the same problem with Stella, with no luck. What I ended up with was a BMX seat post (23.9mm) and a shim and it is working just fine and you have seen how big I am :)

Both seatpost and shim came from Velorution.

(I know I could have used a coke can or something, but this was a nice shim with a collar).

Nope wrong, I had the "badge" of the can showing for a while just about the seatpost clamp, kinda like a name tag :)

But it worked like a treat.
