Important information: where can I get a decent haggis supper then?

No idea about decent, but I remember one chippy on the main street in Longtown.
[EDIT] Of course, that's still just in England. :)
Given there's nigh on bugger all in between the border and Dalkeith (except stunning scenery) I'm guessing you've got a choice of Innerleithen and the outskirts of Edinburgh/Dalkeith.

The Traquair Arms Hotel in Innerleithen does good pub food. I don't know about the chip shop but i imagine it's fine.

The Chippy in Alston does Haggis, but it's in Cumbria like Longtown
There's the Loon Chen takeaway in Langholm and there's a chip shop in Innerleithen.

There used to be a good one in Bonnyrigg, about 2k from the Dalkeith control. It had a plastic parrot on a perch. ;D
PS Mrs eck is going out with her pal tonight. Hmm, I feel a haggis supper from our excellent local chippie coming on. Thanks for the idea. :thumbsup:
Sadly, for you but not for me, we are about 100k north of the Dalkeith control.

I had a very bad "curry" from a take-away in Innerleithen a couple of years ago - their main thing was pizzas if I remember. All their food looked bad but it was the only thing open at the time.

The pub at Coxwold does take away fish and chips but you may have to wait a while and it's not open 24/7
