I couldn't find anywhere else to put this, so I thought I'd start a new thread...

Excellent - that must have taken quite a bit of thinking to achieve.  Is the building part of the NHS?

Not sure what it is.  It always seems to be shuttered up.  It's on Content Street.

I believe it's customary to wheel this one out on such occasions:

It is a sight to behold (or was - dunno if it's still there).

Yes, Riggers.  Now you mention it, that does remind me.  There was an air crash in Southwark yesterday.  Fortunately, it was a teeny-tiny airliner, so no one was injured.  Phew!

Some kind of bell tower pulley system? Or maybe for opening some vents?  ???

No, if you look carefully, I think you can see footrests and handles. I think it's a wheelchair (non-self propelled) that's been upended on the turret.

You know, I think it is. I was thinking it, whatever it was, had been put there to (possibly) do something or at least be something. But it's nothing more than either a prank or perhaps some "conceptual art". Or it fell from a passing spacecraft.

Well,y first thought as I approached it was that it might ne something practical, for roofcrawling access or something.  Then I thought it might have been an installation.  It was only when I was closer I could discern the wheelchair.

I ride along that street a lot, sometimes on my commute, but I couldn't tell you if it was there before.

I have to say, it looks like a useful bit of salvage, those wheels would be good for trailers...

To hark back to Clarion's original post, I remain baffled by the building.  But here's a nice photo of a bearded fixie skidder riding past it with a triple chainset.

You can tell by the heat haze just above his head that he's struggling with that gear ratio.

"fixie with a triple chainset" deserves a WTF all to itself! Although at least you can easily guess how it happened.

Wow.

Btw, I went and had a look round the building in the original photo.  No signs at all, but I think it may have formerly been a Locality Housing Office.

I initially assumed the bars and wheel had just got twisted round while parked, perhaps as a result of falling over and being picked up clumsily. But the reflector is facing "forwards" when the bars are "backwards" so maybe not. I did once see a demonstration by police motorcyclists where everything on their bikes was backwards - so throttle was on the left and opened twisting forwards, clutch was on the right and had to be held in to engage, etc etc - but I'm not sure even they had back to front brakes! And they certainly didn't ride those bikes on the road!  :o
