Mate, if you have that much time to take that many pictures of that much mud you soooooooooooooooooooooooooooo need a job!

Given the wind is strong enough to blow dogs off chains I shall be deep reefing my main and flying my storm jib (AH will know what I mean).

Rollocks!

Shall I add mud-photography to my CV?

If it increases your chance of getting a job then please do so.

You can put us all down as referees as well   ;D  That should increase your chances as well.

"Mark is a work shy get that displays obsessive behaviours regarding the collation of meaningless statistics and car number plates.  He is single handedly keeping the licensed premises of mid-Essex in business despite the worst recession in many a year etc, etc, etc ..."

I'm bailing out, going to keep more local and save my legs for tomorrow and Saturday.

... I've made a decision not to come tonight. I've just been out for a fun but windy ride around the local roads and I'm still feeling a bit under par. With the early start tomorrow for my Ipswich meetings, and the fact that James has nicked my car and I'm not sure if I can fit the Trice in the A4, I'm going to give it a miss. I shall miss you all dearly, of course. Have a brill time and both Uncle James and I will see you next week.

I'm bailing out, going to keep more local and save my legs for tomorrow and Saturday.

See you two some other time then.

I won't be there next week (25th) since mrs_o has prior dibs on that night, which is a shame since the venue is the Viper, a pub which I still haven't visited, and was quite looking forward to.

We shall have to raise a glass to absent friends tonight.

We shall have to raise a glass to absent friends tonight.
And a teapot!

No teapots were troubled in the course of our enjoyment.

Nelson's Blood was quaffed, Golden Boars were slain, Puck's Folly's were correctly pronounced, and Winter Ales were, well, wintry and ale-like.

Nobody fell in the Chelmer and Blackwater Navigation, despite the best efforts of our new attendee, Steve, who fell near it on the way there, and chief who fell (very comically) at the same point on the way back.

Two p*nct*res were mended, hopefully the second time we finally got out the flint that caused it (only time will tell if chief gets home without another faery visitation).

We also got a very convincing sale spitch form the landlord of the Maltsters Arms at Heybridge (which ahs been on my personal list for a while (... c.f. one of the first routes I cooked up).

A little under 13 miles, mostly (mildly) off-road, in great company.

Oh, and after judicious goading, OD went through the lake I dodged earlier in the day.  chief then sprinted through at at least 17mph on his Dawes tourer, leaving myself and Steve unable to chicken out without losing too much face.

Good to meet Steve mkII this evening, hopefully we didn’t scare you too much :o

Did enjoy the stack earlier, really must get used to these clip in things.  Must admit the more experienced a cyclist I’ve become the longer I stay lying on the floor laughing when it does happen :D

"If I can make it back to terling I'll ride the thing home on the rim if need be" were my parting words to Oaky

Well I didn't make it to Terling before I felt some wobbling in the back end area

But a quick go with the pump revealed a slow puncture.  Now then, I've already been through two tubes this evening can I nurse this slow puncture back home including the section near our travelling friends?  It was worth a punt and it paid off with just four stops to give the kiss of life to the back tyre.

Sorry for those I delayed this evening and big thanks to Oaky for staying back with me to ensure I had the best shot of getting home this evening

All in all, wouldn't of missed it for the world

A giggle as always.  With one or two notable exceptions it wasn't as wet and muddy as I had anticipated.  I think the kinky rubber booties were a bit OTT.  It was also very mild so I was overdressed as per usual.

The one disappointment was my CO2 inflator.  Over the last 12 months I have had cause to use it 3 times, twice to help other people.  Twice the damn thing hasn't worked   >:( Investigations are in hand.

By the way Oaky, according to Twinkle Toes if I'm horrible to you on the interweb I am guilty of cyber bullying  ;D  You can always rely on a 9 year old to keep you on the straight and narrow!

Anyhow, thanks to all for a fun night.  I hope to be with the Pompey crew next week so I will see you the week after - if we're spared.

Zackly!!! Wiith all the cyber-bullying I've been subjected to, and the current  press BeMyFaceBoBookSpaceCrap discussions about "teh magick police protexion button innit" I was thinking much the same thing.

Do we need to restart this thread in "Office Reception" or sumfink or should I just rely on me Essex mates to "make like Keith Moon" on my tormentor's "donkey"?

I think we need a Playground Monitor to ensure we all play nicely and no-one's tent gets widdled on (eh Mr "look at me I'm so innocent and have got far too much time on my hands and can spend hours messing about with Photoshop" Oaky???  O:-) )

Were's that Auntie Helen woman?   ;D

By the way: Have you noticed how this thread and the Essex Friday Night Ride to the Pub thread are right up there in terms of the number of views on the Rides and Touring board?  There are clearly a lot of Essex wannabes out there.  Who'd of thought!  Come and join us folks, move to Essex!

No surprise really. What other part of the world can match Essex when it comes to combining cycling and drinking? :D

We've certainly put in a lot of effort to research the optimal combination of the two pastimes.

I wonder if we could lend more local flavour to the art-form:  neon-blue light under the BB?  whopping great wing on the rack?  ;D

For your Christmas do I will be dying my hair blonde, wearing fake nails and thigh high boots, and drinking alcopops.

Much of this is a lie
