About a year ago I converted my inbred to drop bars. I've used it a fair bit and it's never felt quite right. Well strangely if I'm in my padded mitts it feels a lot better then warm but not cycling specific gloves. I suspect that it's become a tad to stretched for me. The stem is about 90mm but where as before the bars were straight they now have the extra distance added by the drop bars. I'm gonna stick a shorter stem on it but wondering how short to go. I know that in theory short can lead to twitchy but does the extra reach the bars end counteract this?

If it's only the thickness of a pair of mitts then either fit an 80mm stem or a 60. Measured from the top cap bolt to the joint of the front cap.

Well that's the more blunt way of putting it but as usual he's dead right.

I have a 30mm stem in my Inbred and it handles just fine. The geometry is cranky - the top tubes are much too long compared to the seat tubes, so I'm using a ridiculously long seatpost and a ridiculously short stem.
