Anyone know anything about BVTS valves ?

http://www.mmcdanfossdistributors.co.uk/130---BVTS+Thermostatic+bio-mass+valve

I have one connected to a plate heat exchanger for emergency relief. Last night it causes water to drip through the kitchen ceiling!

Basically its dripping ie not totally closed even though we haven't had a fire for days. The drip is going down the relief pipe and outside to the drain but with the current weather that has frozen and its backed up filled the tunny and leaked into the roof :(

I have thawed the external pipe out but I expect it will eventually freeze again.

There is a red test button on the top but when I press it nothing happens, I would expect this button to open the valve (I was hoping opening it fully would let it close properly afterwords).

Any idea?

I think you'll find it's a bit more complicated than that.

Had a look at the cross section? http://www.mandmcontrols.co.uk/images/products/BVTS_Thermostatic_Valve.pdf

If you can shut off the water to the inlet I'd take the screw plug (1) off and have a look inside.  Could be any number of things preventing it from closing from a knackered gasket or o ring to a sticky pin in the stuffing box.

Thanks Chris. Mrs Pcolbeck has informed me I am getting the plumber to fix it. She has confidence I can do it but says it will take me ages mucking around when I could be doing something more productive.
I fear she is correct.
