There is a reasonable chance that the 2023 Mersey 24hr will be the last, unless a new organising team can be found.
There is a chance that any RTTC National will be the last some time soon... numbers are so low that even the National champs can't be filled.
We're seeing quite a quick death. Not sure I can bring myself to sell some of my kit. Possibly the wheels and some clothing.
I've seen the numbers for all Open events... they are down about 50% since 2017 and probably this year will be worse. Is it terminal? I am not sure, I think it is happening across all branches of cycling... countless Sportives have gone bust, numbers at BMCR races are pathetic and even BC races are well down on numbers, with organisers having to recruit on Facebook. CTT might suffer even more, due to the spiralling cost of competitive equipment for time trials... I mean, 80 quid for a pair of aero socks... really?
Don't think Bigham's bang was quite loud enough, certainly not as loud as the 2012 TdF + Olympics... the all competitive cycling sector is on a downward trend... there might be some accountability there, Zwift above all... lots of friends racing on there year round.
