Which anti virus ?

I have happily used AGV (free) for years but last time I had to install it on a friends pc it had become a massive bloatware. I want something that is free and will not eat RAM/CPU etc for its breakfast. Any recommendations ?
Or would windows defender and windows firewall be enough ?

You don't have to have all of AVG's features turned on. It's using very little resources on my XP machines.
With Windows 7 so far, I'm happy enough just to rely on Window's own AV and firewall.

I have found that AVG has become bloated. It uses a lot of resource for quite a few hours after installation but settles down eventually.

Oh yes, I forgot that. It does a complete scan or something in the background at first, but you'll get past that, Woolly.

Unless you practice unsafe hex, Microsoft Security Essentials seems to do a good job and consumes a lot less resources than Macafee
