Galaxy S2 weirdness

Mrs T rang me this morning (with good news as it turns out).

When I tried answering the phone had a little fit on me and sent her what appears to be an auto-reponse by SMS, which said "I'm in class now".

How did it do that?  How do I stop it doing it again 'cos it confuses the hell out of us....

Google has drawn a blank so far :(
I feel like Captain Kirk, on a brand new planet every day, a little like King Kong on top of the Empire State
