Yup, OK.   I'll consider it for January 2017 - Polar Bear's Birthday Bash.

I did contact Dalesbridge (Jon who will respond within 24 hours) querying the January and February outage/bookings, but have not had a reply. So, I don't know if this is a maintenance break or a genuine solid booking.

I hear it's lovely (but also quite spendy).

There is another Bunkhouse in Clapham that seems to be free in January

The Clapham Bunkhouse is lovely and they do great breakfasts in the cafe.

Wherever you decide to go, I think we'd have to pop up for the day or wild camp nearby in the van, since we have the dog.

For a different option, how about this one in Bamford in the Peak District?
http://independenthostels.co.uk/members/homesteadandcheesehouse/location/

There's a station on the Manchester-Sheffield Line at Bamford, and it's within striking distance of Castleton, The Devil's Arse*, Derwent Reservoirs, Edale, etc.

I seem to recall Bamford was suggested last year, but that they were very difficult to contact.

Dufton has a hostel, Clapham has a hostel...

There are hostels all over the place old thing, but one that peeps actually want to go, and can get to is unclear, hence proposing Dalesbridge originally due to its popularity.

Clapham is available in Jan atm. £16.50 a night plus £3 for quilts and towels if required. (Not including breakfast). Appears to be well thought of.

What do people think say Jan 29/30th?

I would propose that we book individually and ask for sole use discount if we fill a bunk room etc. Note this hostel is popular with groups of cavers and can fill quickly.

I imagine parking will be available at exorbitant cost £7.50 for two days in the adjacent NT Car Park.

Price includes central heating, hot water and showers. Small fully equipped kitchen.
Licensed Bar open 10am – 6pm Sun, Wed & Thurs and until 7pm on Fri & Sat.
Cafe open Wed – Sat 10am – 5pm, 4pm on Sundays
Bottom bed sheet, pillow and pillowcase supplied
Duvet hire can be supplied at £3.00 per person per stay.

The local pub is the new Inn. (which also has a posh bunk room for up to 7). Dining looks interesting, but pricing levels reflect this. Note the trenchers (for two) at £60! Don't know if they do bar meals as well but no reference to this on their web site.

Austwick, is of course, well within cycling distance @2.1 miles (subject to weather) for those of adventurous disposition (the food is excellent at the Game Cock Inn)

If this is not a goer, we still have time to look at something else as highlighted above.

Hostels is a northerner softies thing Chris.   Us southerners go camping!   ;)   :demon:

Find a hostel somewhere you'd like to visit, check availability, cost, shops, pubs, trains, etc., propose a YACF weekend.   Simple.

I am very aware of this Chris and would like to see a southern winter sojourn come about.  As I recall PB whilst we were all freezing inside the bunkhouse at Kildale, AndrewC was outside camping in front of the farmhouse in a sea of white. (He's well 'ard.)

Canardly's suggestion of Jan 29-30 sounds good to us, but we won't be able to stay in the hostel because of the woof. We could wild camp in the van, p'raps, and join in with activities, though.  Or just pop up from Skipton for the day.

I have voted for the Bunhouse, irrespective of what type of bun is on offer - and will be very disappointed if the letter K makes an appearance!

I am bumping this as availability, according to the bunkhouse electronic diary, is still there, but interest appears to be very limited thus far.
