Author Topic: Using .gpx files on Garmin Nuvi66 - (moved from wrong sub-forum!)  (Read 1256 times)

  • Oh, no!
(OK, I originally posted this query in the wrong place - can I try again, pse!)

I've created some cycle routes on cycletravel, and would like to import the .gpx files on to my car Garmin Nuvi66LM so that I can drive the routes to check them.

Has anyone done this, or can advise, please?

I don't have that particular model, but what I'd advise would be to use Mapsource or Basecamp.
These programs know where to place the files on different Garmin models.

In Mapsource, open the GPX file and then use the Send To Device button.
It will find the Nuvi and you just click OK.

In Basecamp, I think you'd go File -> Import and import the GPX.
Then Select the track in the left-hand tree, and click the Send To Device button.

Very grateful for that, Feanor.

I've had a quick play and created a route on Basecamp, which appears to have exported successfully to the Garmin. Will try in more detail over the next day or two, and report back.

Yes, I found that our Nuvi is happy with routes, but not tracks from Basecamp.

First try, on a local but rather convoluted route, was fairly successful - once I'd found the route buried in the Apps section of the Nuvi  :-[
Have now created a longer route, which I've uploaded and will try over the weekend.

These routes have been created on Basecamp, which so far seems OK for car routeing, but my next aim will be to try and upload routes created on Cycletravel, which is more cycle-friendly. My Cycletravel routes, incidentally, contain hardly any off-highway stuff, so shouldn't be too much of a problem - I hope!

Thanks again for the advice.
