Great photos up there wilkyboy!

That view up the Irfon valley is about my favourite view on any bike ride.
Right! What's next?

Ooooh. That sounds like a daft idea.  I am in!

Interesting, Mikey, ^^

You ate a bit more than I thought.  In particular, you clearly have a taste for strong (energy) drink when riding!

The only time I've ever really run out of energy was at the end of PBP when, after eating well the whole way, I got it into my head that I could manage the last 300km on three or four croissants.

I've done a little bit of research into this recently in the context of preparing for the 24 hour TT.  I ran out of fuel on that last year, although not as badly as PBP, but ended up spending quite a few hours plodding along at 12mph.

My research has thrown up the figure of 300 calories per hour as being what a typical person can take in on endurance events, and I was aiming for that on Saturday.  Of course you need to use your own reserves as well.  At some point, you would run out of reserves but your ride suggests that there is more margin of error than I had assumed.  It sounds like you certainly finished with glycogen still in your legs.

Anyway, apologies all, this is a bit OT but interesting for me!

And ditto to comments about great photos!  Thanks for posting.

When Sheila got within 1 mile of the (then) Ladies' National record on the 24h TT, she rode the whole thing entirely on Coca-Cola.  (And then survived a drugs test afterward)
when you're dead you're done, so let the good times roll

Basically sugar + caffeine.  Would be ok as long as she could rely on very regular feeding - which clearly was not a problem given the result.

Coke is the traditional finishing circuit fuel at my club.  But it has to be flat, so one of the helper tasks during the day is to get the gas out of a large bottle by doing lots of decanting and shaking.  Would be quite a job to do for a rider who was using coke for the whole event!

I loved that ride, thought it was brilliant.

Maybe the checkpoints were a little too good as according to the Garmin I appear to have been stationary for 4 hours!  ;)

Feline and Simon that was me sat next to you at the first checkpoint, was good chatting to you... I highly recommend the breakfast bap for next year, yum!

The only photo I took was this one. The guy in the next tent was unlucky with punctures, so makes me wonder if that was Tail End Charlie:

Donny, it was indeed me in the tent next to you. Nice to meet you. Looking at your photo it's taken me ages to work out why my bike isn't leaning against the tree. Or perhaps someone nicked it and returned it without me knowing.

Was nice to meet you too. Don't worry I didn't airbrush your bike out. I left the start 20 minutes late, you were long gone!

(If anyone can't make this, then John's Barcud Coch perm does a fair chunk of the best bits and does an even better route into Tregaron, via Llyn Brianne rather than the over-rated and frankly PITA Devil's Staircase.  Probably one of the best 200km routes in the UK, I can think of only a couple of others that are as special, at least for those who don't mind hills).

No changes planned at all. Will have quite enough to do in 2014 with my other project (watch this space)
