I don't think it is. The Highway Code is pretty clear about how much space you should leave between your parked car and a junction.

In fairness, that's a shit cycle lane. The whole thing should be inverted. The cycle lane could be parking (if it must be), the rest should be cycle lane that cars have permissive access to, but have to give way to cycles and peds.

I wonder if it was automatic, or if he just got the wrong gear (I'm not familiar with Jag gates).  On a BMW it is very easy to engage 1st instead of reverse.

It does ;D

But I'm not convinced this berk can read.  Certainly can't see two free parking spaces in the row just out of shot to the right. ::-)

The time the photo was taken and the time he parked may be different and may have had a different state of occupancy of the designated spaces. Still stupid parking though.

I can see why you think that, but no, he drove up and parked as I parked my bike.  I took the photo as soon as he was in the shop.

Yes.  Just what is the definition of parking?  I've had responses from people that 'I'm not parked, I'm...

...waiting'
...delivering'
...picking someone up'
...dropping someone off'
...taking a phone call'

etc etc.

Double yellow lines actually cover this. Setting down and picking up are forbidden, but (un)loading is permitted unless specifically forbidden (usually using the lines on the kerb). Waiting is permitted. Not sure about phone calls, then you should be parked, so from your list on a normal DYL, 1 and 2 are legal 3,4 and 5 are forbidden.

That's what I thought.  There are double yellows just outside work, and I have to move people on regularly, but they come up with all sorts of excuses.

Mostly, they are going to the corner shop for a pack of fags, a bag of crisps and a lottery ticket. ::-)

I complained to the borough council about cars parking half on the road and half on the pavement. I got a reply today that said they patrol "in a daily patton". I wonder if they have any other generals come out on patrol?

Maybe they're using one of these?

I thought loading required that the goods had already been ordered and paid for. I guess that there's a market for corner shops to take online orders then.

Our council has put up parking meters with instructions to park half on the pavement.   :face palm:

Strange - I assume that's a garage forecourt? So why does it have a yellow cross-hatched box - used, IME, to protect difficult junctions? Is it perhaps to denote the tyre-inflation area, as I can see a tyre pressure chart in front of the BMW. Perhaps they driver had gone in to get a token or a 20p coin for the air machine? If my first assumption is correct (forecourt), it's not a public highway and thus the yellow box has no force, it's simply a request not to park - unless you're using, or about to use, the air machine.

If it is private ground and the yellow marks an area to which public do not have a right to take motor vehicles then the driver has committed an offence.
