Author Topic: Volenteers required - Monday 25th July 2016, Highlands, West coast & Glens.  (Read 16223 times)

I suppose for me that would roughly be

Day 1- travel up from London
Night 1 - sleep near the start

Day 2 - 300k
Night 2 - rest
Day 3 - 600k
Night 3 - rest
Day 4 - 900k
Night 4 - rest
Day 5 - 1,200k

Night 5 -rest
Day 6 - travel home.

Your cycling day splits roughly as I was thinking but am concerned about stopping @ 300km and then getting behind

So currently thinking ride about 400km, catnap around wee hours Monday night / Tuesday morning ( in bivi with midge hood too  ;D ) , ride another ~250 for Tuesday night good sleep stop, then another 300 km ish another proper stop, finish remaining 250-300km on Thursday . In theory !!!    M / YMMV ::-)
....after the `tarte de pommes`, and  fortified by a couple of shots of limoncellos,  I flew up the Col de Bavella whilst thunderstorms rolled around the peaks above

Is there many spaces left as still trying to get a ticket out! ::-)

There are a few spaces remaining,  I've just received an enquiry from a Danish group. That will probably be it then.

Will there be another one in 2018?

The event entry will be closed at the end of October 2015, or sooner if the event's fully subscribed beforehand.

Various reasons for doing so, but mainly to advise riders' with their preparations/planning, logistics with ferry operators and other service providers.

it`s been quite disappointing I feel but that of the 8 establishments (all advertising on Scottish accommodation websites)  I`ve emailed re overnight stops just 2 have actually bothered to reply. Makes booking ahead somewhat hit and miss ::-)

Entry done - The wedding wasn't planned this far ahead......   just don't, OK..

Sadly this event is now fully subscribed and entries are closed. :'(

If you're looking for something very similar, you might like to consider this event currently in the AUK calendar,

Despite the event only being published less than a month ago, the event is already well subscribed.  :o

Excellent and glad it has proved popular as expected.  How many entries have you taken?

That's a bit fluid at the moment, the ride on July 25th is fully subscribed, there are some maybe-nots  As well as twice as many maybes' that particularly want this date

The ride on July 26th has room for about 50 more, interest at the moment is particularly high from mainland Europe.

I have just signed up. No experience in doing these long rides, but i believe i have the determination to finish.

Always been interested in long distance riding. I did a 300km last year and have just returned from a 5 month bicycle tour around Europe. My fitness at the moment is pretty good, so if i can keep it ticking over the winter it will put me in good stead for this next year.

The ride on 25th of July 2016 closed to entries so e time ago, the identical  ride on july 26th will close on new years day, or sooner if entries continue to roll-in at the rate they have been.

For those that may be inspired/curious basic details are here along with entry details. There's room for about a dozen more.

After recalling memories of BlackSheep's fantastic 1300km last year, I could no longer resist so have entered the Tuesday start of his 1200km next year.

I managed without any midge repellent last time, but couldn't have managed without my midge hat. I wore it when stopping at night and under my helmet during the day. I didn't get bitten too badly, but was more than a little miffed to find that they bite through lycra.

Midges don't bite through Lycra, but cleggs do.
It is simpler than it looks.

I only really encountered the wee beasties a couple of times.

The cash machine at gairloch - there was about 4 or 5 of us controlling and waiting around involved circling around the car park to not stop.

The bunkhouse at trantlebeg. I really felt for the film crew as the midges were horrific there.

I am no expert in the little bastards, but the weather we had probably helped keep their numbers down.

Avon skin so soft has always kept me alive when touring in Scotland.
