alwyn - depending on the dates and Life I'm probably up for volunteering again, but will definitely not be riding so you can, highly shockingly, take me off your list off possibles :D

My mum has no interest in riding either, tho' I did offer to pilot a tandem. She will volunteer again all being well :)

for those thinking of volunteering, i'd say my time helping at the arrivee on LEL was utterly brill and well worth it. a high point of the year and certainly up there with opening an envelope from Mike Wigley to discover my cloth badge for a RRTY. Now that really was special.
Besides, it wouldn't be audacious if success were guaranteed.

At the moment I'm only looking to recruit people to the central team, which is mostly done. No doubt we'll start a push to recruit volunteers (and workers) next year sometime.

Well I've registered my interest in riding, and hopefully I'll get a place...

I promise not to use a Carradice..... but the beard stays..... Ponytail may have fallen out by then...

I enjoyed the last one, that's for sure
I’ve decided I’m not old. I’m 25 .....plus shipping and handling.

Ponytail may have fallen out by then...

even if so, the marginal aero gain will make up for any (probably non-existent) loss of speed!

Don't cut the pony tail off Mike, I might need a tow one day.

That'll be one cold day in hell if you need a tow.

Not sure about the tow, but I could probably lend you a towel.....  ;D

We've set aside 400 places for people who by January 2017 will have been AUKs for nearly two years.

Would becoming a AUK member on 5th march 2015 be close enough to the two years required ?

I'm sitting here thinking I might have ago at doing it  :)

Read the thread -- post 5 says  "We've also set aside 400 places for people who were AUK members as of March 25 2015."

So you are in with a chance of getting a pre general release place  -- but we will carefully check ALL entries claiming to be AUK members at 25th march 2015
I was an accountant until I discovered Audax !!

I like that "members before 25th March 2015" idea - the Labour Party should have thought of that

Good job that particular rule was kept quiet, otherwise, like the Labour party, we'd have had thousands of new members intent on sending us to perdition.
Besides, it wouldn't be audacious if success were guaranteed.

Don't mention towels, particularly small ones.

So, if a chap had:-
  • Registered on the website
  • Bought a copy of the LEL2013 film
  • Accepted a place after volunteering on another event
  • Been a member of AUK for many years
he should be ok for a spot and should also have received emails to that effect?
