single speed chain ring and BCD menace
« on: 08 September, 2013, 05:06:33 pm »
Hi forum folk,

Am struggling to build up my single speed.

Basically, ail is good except the front chain ring. I want a 48t chainring and have seen a few options. However, I am now being 'spun out' with a BCD figure. I have pedal arms from a shimano ultegra compact chain set that I want to fit to said chain ring but am not sure about the BCD figures. Any help would be great.

Cheers,

Doo
I dunno why anybody's doing this!

Ultegra compact = 110mm BCD.  More info: http://sheldonbrown.com/cribsheet-bcd.html

You can work out the BCD by measuring the distance between the hole centres and a bit of simple geometry (hint: pentagon). Quite satisfying, especially if you had one of these when you were in school:
