Goslings! On Whiteknights lake, in the university grounds. Offspring of a pair of exotic & extremely bad-tempered (even by the stroppy standards of geese in general) geese.

The group of drinking chavs on the path behind Bournville station are back.

No signs of broken glass yet, but it's early days.  :(
Admission.  I'm actually not that fussed about cake.

I've just been out for the first time in a few days. The daffodils in and around Churchill Gardens are still only in bud, and not many of those have bent over. The blackthorn is on the point of flowering, though.

The first week of March has been far colder than the average for January and February.

Saw our first lambs of the year today, East Lothian.  No daffs yet but lots of snowdrops and one dandelion.

Blimey.  Just in time then.
You are not allowed Shrove Tuesday pancakes unless you have seen a new lamb.

Or is that just stuff that my mum made up?

I think the Black Dog is spending more time in his kennel, and less time prowling around after me.

This is probably a Sign of Spring.

First lambs of the year yesterday, too (but not up here - south of Embra).

Lots of tiny lambs yesterday, and one damn big one.

Primroses have appeared on the side of our drive :)

Today is the first properly warm day of the year; it's sunny with an intense blue sky & no clouds at all and the cats are rolling about outside in ecstasy.

Great crested grebes flirting. They didn't get to the dance, but they were doing the head/neck thing, & synchronised movements.

A bloody blue tit eating the buds on my blackcurrant bush. Little feathered bastard!

A Satanic Spring Rite??

Are those willow branches newly planted in that circle?  Or established?

Looks more like a witch thing to me.

Seen outside our place, a ked kite taking off with a twig in it's beak - not something I've seen before.  I guess it means they be nesting nearby.

Heard a first greenfinch singing as I arrived home today yesterday - only half the usual song, but unmistakable in an area without starlings.

Daffs starting here too - proper wild ones, not escaped garden ones

The last few mornings I have heard a significant Dawn Chorus.

Although it sounds wonderful I would rather have been asleep.
