Title: PBP 2011 photos
Post by: Laid Back Rich on 27 August, 2011, 01:59:47 am
some of my photos here http://www.flickr.com/photos/87831957@N00/sets/72157627526538942/

v. pleased with 71h47, ahead of my 72h30 schedule, all went to plan, two proper 4h sleeps at 600k and 980k, and weather conditions close to ideal for most of my ride

more later... probably... need to sleep now...

Excellent photos which capture the atmosphere of PBP, good to see Andy C indulging in a bit of post ride rehydration!

Lightweights! If you look carefully, one of those cans is Coke, and another appears to be Orange Juice. What is the world coming to?

Well done LBR and all.  Really atmospheric pictures.  I don't know many of those involved but I loved the one of AndyC and Bob Johnson with the world's smallest pizzas and Andy C with the odd can.....

There's a few of mine here http://www.flickr.com/photos/marcusjb/sets/72157627528564234/ (http://www.flickr.com/photos/marcusjb/sets/72157627528564234/)

I regret taking so few - but those that I took will bring back happy memories for years to come.

I was pleased with my time having planned to get round in 72hrs. I think I was a bit lucky to miss the worst of the heavy rain on Monday night when I managed 3hrs sleep in the hall at Carhaix :smug:

I was  pleased with my 82 hours 21mins, especially after being too slow in the rain 4 years ago. My chosen time limit was 90 hours.

My ride plan was to ride as fast as possible to Brest, and enjoy more stops (controls and roadside food and coffee, etc,) on the way back.
I rode about half the route with riders I knew, so that was good.
My photos are at

https://picasaweb.google.com/103516038499036836792/PeterSParisBrestParis2011

Have only had time to view Rich's (excellent) shots so far, but hope to view more soon.

Don't call them pro's. Shit quality. If you comment their overuse of flashes they just mumble that they can't easily switch them off. And obviously they made no testshots of their locations, sky completely blown out. In 2007 I refused to buy them due to the quality, same this time.

I took very very few photos owing to having no camera with me, a mobile phone battery to preserve and being a bit too slow to stop for such frivolity very often. But here they are!

https://picasaweb.google.com/canonman999/ParisBrestParis2011Start?

A set of images from me and Mark Green at the start. Most of the shots are of auks waiting to start, either on the road or round the football pitch, queueing under 30 deg heat. There is also a sequence of shots as the Vedettes start off, with quite a few auks featured among the thousand or so who took off at high speed to the sound of cheers and a loud presentation from the commentator.

These are the first of about 3,000 shots taken over four days and are low resolution just for the web. High resolution colour-corrected versions can be obtained from me for a small fee to help cover my car hire, petrol and B&B.

I'll be adding more images as I work my way through processing them. Next set will be from Ambrieres on the way out on the first morning.

Mark is such a gentleman, offering Arabella the top bunk.

Chillmoister, Keeks & Me.  Those jerseys are hard-earned (and not just on PBP, there's a few years of effort, family inconvenience and many thousands of miles wrapped up in those jerseys).  I'm extremely proud of mine.

Was I hallucinating or were you, me and John Spooner talking to Simon Topping from 1980's "Madchester" band "A Certain Ratio" in a Cafe on the way back to Paris?

It seemed a strange conversation looking back..

Me "You look very familiar
Him "How old are you?"
Me "49"
Him "Me too"
Me "Where are you from?"
Him "Manchester, I lived on Hillgate, Stockport"
Me "Me too"

I'm beginning to think I was talking to a mirror (stranger things happened on my PBP)

MV, you were slumped back in your chair, "catching flies" (never seen you look so knackered) but I think you awoke.

Post by: border-rider on 06 September, 2011, 10:33:13 am
Ah, that's who he was.  I thought he was a mate of yours, didn't realise you'd just met him

The conversation later became very odd; he was apparently "well-in" with the cafe proprietor, but was saying all sorts of stuff about France being a third-world country, which was obviously irritating Monsieur.

That was on that interminable section after Villaines, in the middle of the night, after we'd made MattC entertainments officer, but he'd ridden off and left us.

I was impressed by mattc's resolve. He'd obviously learned his lessons from 2007.

I think MV's mistake may have been ordering a mug of Horlicks and choosing a comfy chair.

It all took place at the café Au Bon Coin at Fresnay-sur-Sarthe. Not the first time I've been in there.

Here is my video of my arrival back at the Gymnasium.

The blurry artefacts are down to the "Deshaker" software I used trying to interpolate missing edge detail.

Still, it shows very well my best memory of the ride.  You may be able to spot Exit Stage Left, Chillmoister & Keeks if you are sharp-eyed.

Ha! Yes.  In fact I was chasing then down a bit to make them scurry.

Quote

I was just grabbing the bars with both hands (whilst still holding the camera).  I'd already just wobbled one-handed (holding the camera) over a few cable and ramps entering the barrier section and didn't want to end my ride falling into the dirt at the end.

Hello, yes it was indeed me. If you are at all interested there is a Certain Ratio 30year gig at band on the wall 11 Nov. Sorry to be a bit behind the news, not having participated and all that. Here is the link to the FFCT's gallery of PBP2011; I couldn't see any obviously british riders but a bit of atmosphere all the same.

Nice photos of Liudmila Bataeva, the Puerto Ricans and of Valery Komotchkov receiving some sort of award, or possibly presenting one, to Jean-Gualbert Faburel.

Could it be that only people who have actually paid for Tim's photos got them in the mag?

No. Damn me for even thinking that...

No, I don't think the bloke who looks like he's having a slash on the very left of the bottom inside back cover pic paid for his insertion.

And I didn't get my pic in. I'll have to ride again in 2015...

Despite Arrivee's photographic evidence to the contrary I'd like to point out that I took part in, and successfully completed, PBP 2011

+1

I really think there should've been some kind of line-up of us all. Although the most popular picture is of my massive Arse, so maybe just as well it's not in there  ::-)

A double page spread would have done it justice, surely?

I think it would take more like A1. Arrivee just doesn't have big enough pages.

What a hideous fashion faux-pas. Everyone knows that as an audaxer you should be wearing socks with your SPD sandals  :)
