Yesterday I had a pint of Rhythm Stick, from the Billericay Brewing Co (obv.). It was touted as an "amber" ale and it was really excellent.
I'm enjoying the nomenclature of your beer, the place from whence it came, and the convoluted connection to the late, great Ian Dury.

Loving the barleywines at the moment. Excellent one from Lervig the other day at the Beer Merchants Tap in the tragically hip Wickney Hack. And I've snarfed a bottle of Magic Rock's Strongman.

We did wander down the Bermondsey Beer Mile before Christmas (cut a bit short as both Affinity and Partizan had closed already for the holidays, humbug). I suspect we still got enough beer in. And sausage rolls. Lots of sausage rolls. You need to cover all your essential food groups on one of these boozy adventures.

I made an excellent homebrew barleywine in November 2017, finished the last three bottles with my dad and sisters OH this Christmas, it had matured very well.  It's definitely on the list for a re-brew

I has acquired a couple of bottles of Cloudwater's new bourbon barrel-aged barleywine. It's nearly Miller Time and my watch informs me that I've hit all today's fitness goals. It's quite possibly time to be bad.

A Brew Dog jet black heart for me this evening. Next choice is whether to leave the framvoise in the fridge for post audax tomorrow and have a single malt, or to drink it this evening at the risk of needing to buy another beer tomorrow.

The Alehouse in town trying it's best to make decisions difficult. Amongst the 12 or so ales were Cloudwater, Siren, and Wiper and True. All on cask.

I have had a few of their beers over the years but this is the only one that has really impressed me. The others have been of the OK-but-nothing-special variety. But as a native (born at 23, Tye Common Road) I have to offer my support.

Arrived at my favourite Sheppey boozer (Admiral's Arm) late this afternoon to find it lit by candlelight. Power cut. They were still serving though it was a tad chilly in there. Managed a Wadworth's Dirty Rucker and a Thornbridge Rocky Road Lucaria (weird beer masquerading as a chocolate dessert) before the electrickery man popped in and said there was no chance of power being restored tonight. So they called it a day.
There's no vibrations, but wait.

Popped in to my local on the way back from getting bread and milk and was bemused to see the business manager from our local primary school behind the bar. 'Hello,' sez she, 'this is my mum and dad's pub!'. I had a very pleasant pint of Backhouse Brewery mild (though at 4.8% it's not exactly mild strength), then a half of a coconut porter and another of something hazy and hoppy. I really should go more often.

That's what I thought as well, I have a hit and miss relationship with them myself, finding some of them cloyingly sweet.  This was from waitrose, so by definition not likely to be extreme in nature. It was fairly dry, only slightly oaky and a nice satisfying 7%.

The ones I dislike are the excessively sweet jobs with about 3% alcohol and masses of unfermented stuff

That's the Boon Oude Gueze right? I think lambics are quite a good way to get non-beer drinkers into beer*, at least for more foodie people anyways. The funk is more reminiscent of the more interesting end of cider and white wine - which is in some ways more familiar. And they lack the bitterness. I love that one - it's easy-drinking but still satisfyingly interesting.

*That and ridiculous imperial stouts. Like the Evil Twin's Maple Bourbon Barrel-Aged Imperial Mexican Biscotti Toasted Coconut Cake Break. It's still technically beer.

In my local the other night: a half of cherry cocoa porter (nice but nothing special), and a third of Siren/Civil Society Cradle of Culture (sour DIPA); not necessarily the kind of thing I'd usually go for, but very pleasant to sit and sip.

The person who looks after the cask beers at Krakatoa is leaving on Thursday  :(

And he's gone. I'm very concerned about the future of cask beers in this pub  :-\

Apparently, the Bottleshop (SE1, Canterbury, Margate) has gone into liquidation and closed up shop, which is a bit sad, though I'm not sure a surprise. They were primarily a specialist wholesaler in a crowded market that has less need for specialist wholesalers. Plus you can't go anywhere without stumbling over a craft beer shop, as my wallet is well aware. Even in SE1 there's a rash of new taps rooms and bars (Moor, Cloudwater, etc.) with longer opening hours to compete with direct sales, and they were never cheap. Spending loads of cash to get beers 'super-fresh' was also a bit of a gimmick that ate up their CrowdCube funding. But still a bit sad (obviously more so for their employees), they were one of the originals on the Bermondsey Beer Mile and always a good place to try some awesome beers and the staff were always great.

Reminds me, I went to Brewdog in Shepherd's Bush and it was a bit crap, the usually sorry bar service that could have graced any generic London pub (wrong beer twice, zero apologies), immodest pricing, and food (and I wasn't expecting much) that was industrial catering fare. I suppose that's mainstream for you.

Did a Sunday night ride out to the Salutation at Ham for a few pints with my mate. Camra pub of year 2015.

Got very excited when I saw Deya 'Steady Rolling Man' on menu. Less excited when told it was £3 for half a pint (5.2%). Round these parts good craft beer tops out at about £3.80.

Even less excited when they told me they couldn't find the barrel. So, I tucked into their own brews, Tileys.

First one was Tileys Amarillo centennial. To me, Amarillo usually means full fitness, but it was thin and sour. So I then had their standard bitter. It was ok.

Bit disappointing really. The Alehouse in town does much better beer.

To be fair, once you reach a particular size, if you want to get bigger that's mostly your only option to access additional capital. It cool if you want to stay small and do your thing and I'm glad many do, but equally I've no big issue if some want to move up a level – I'll be happy to get Magic Rock in the average pub rather than the usual grim selection, and it's not really in the interest of the big brewers to mess with their acquisition.

Thornbridge takeover of our local micro last night. About a dozen different beers on offer. We came away with a bottle of Serpent which we'll crack with our son tomorrow.
