I suspect by entering as normal, then imposing upon the AAA man's goodwill by sending him a GPX as ridden.

Is there any update on the location for the end point?

The reason I ask is that a friend of mine who lives in York has asked a local landlord if he was interested and he said he would be!

Postern Gate?
Punch Bowl

or another location?

The pub in question is the Nags Head https://whatpub.com/pubs/YOR/123

Apparently he would get someone in to cook breakfast and would open at 7am?

Is it worth considering?

You prolly need to go read the Easter Arrow thread over on the AUK forum.
(Look in the board 'Cal events, Perms & ECEs' )

It won't be the Punch Up, we're banned :-)
I'm currently working on the basis of the Postern Gate.

Hi all,

Can anyone looking for an extra team member starting around the Kent area have a look at the AUK forum. There is a rider looking for a team. Quoted below. Hope someone might be able to get in touch with him

'I am looking to do the Easter Arrow from Kent way, is there anyone who needs another member for their team as I can't rustle up 2 other willing riders.

I was initially looking to start from Gillingham but am willing to move around a bit to find a group to ride with.

Thanks,

Chris'

Team members wanted by Wessex based team. We have three and would welcome one or two more for company.
425k from Salisbury starting around 8.30 on Good Friday.
Steady social ride. Plenty of refreshment.
Ideal prep for LEL night riding or just for a hoot.

Both starting from Newark we briefly pop down the Leicestershire border before heading to Lincoln, Woodhall Spa, Stamford, Crowland then following the LEL route up to Louth then a meal stop at the 24hr Ulceby Truck stop South Killingholme. Then back over the bridge to Howden and York. For more info pop by our Facebook group "Audax Club Lincolnshire".

Also looking for extra team members. We have 3 but would welcome 1 or 2 more, starting Bungay in Suffolk on Friday morning and following a flat coastal route to York, approx 400k. Any takers?

Did you find a team for Milton Keynes/Oxfordshire. I know it's a bit late but I'd be interested (my preference would be Oxfordshire)

Hi,

Some fool has suggested going over-distance on the Arrow ride. I have asked about this before and cannot find the answers. So if we go over distance do we insert a loop into the planned route before the end, or go past the finish and loop back?

Past the finish is the preferred option.

I haven't been giving this any thought, but still interested in joining a team (as is Deniece). Willing to cycle 100km from Milton Keynes to a start.

Failing that, TG sent me his 414km route, suggesting a 10am Friday start, in order to get refreshments at the 22nd hour in Helmsley. I am a total arrow novice, and feel out of my depth organising a team.

Having considered this in the past I came to the conclusion that it was a bad idea.  If you get to York an hour and a half early, you still have to control in York, then go out 15km or so, control again, return towards York and control again.  Getting the team through a control is time consuming.  Better to set an ambitious distance on the assumption that you are highly unlikely to make it, but keeping the controls sensibly spaced.

Was in York on Saturday, so whilst youngest son was viewing the university, I toddled round to The Posterior Gate to view the facilities.  It has fairly extensive outside, partly covered, areas where bikes should not be much of a problem.  I suspect these areas are for summertime drinking but I don't think food is allowed.  It backs on to the river and a large number of bikes could be parked on the riverside decking/terrace which would otherwise be empty.

Coming from the South/Fulford the middle of the road is barriered at the point where you need to turn right to get to the main entrance.  There is a gap for pedestrians, so I would suggest pulling in and crossing the road on foot, otherwise you can go on and use the roundabout to retrace on the correct side of the barrier.

Did not stay to eat or drink - I can only face a 'spoons breakfast after about 400k... but it was not busy.

Alternatively, at the northern end of the Fishergate gyratory (just before the bit with the central reservation/barrier) turn right onto Paragon Street, then first left through Fishergate Bar (cycles and pedestrians only), then at the give-way turn left along Lead Mill Lane and the Postern Gate is directly in front of you. :-)

We were early last year, due to something unusual, called a tailwind... and stopped at the Postern Gate for a coffee, before heading down to the Punchbowl at 08:00. It is indeed large, quiet and has ample bike parking along the river railings. Bikes can be seen from that side of the pub. ACME Dynamite Fixed and psyclist's ACME assortment will be staying overnight Friday at the Travelodge there anyway.

Out riding in the wind and heavy rain today. Reminded me it can still get effing cold this time of year. I'll have my merino layers for the Arrow.

I see that the Postern Gate is very close to the supposed grave of Dick Turpin, so it's a perfect venue for the Arrow finish.  Dick is supposed to have ridden from London to York in 24 hours but tests on horses specialising in endurance events suggest that this would have been impossible.  Certainly if he had stopped at all the pubs and inns where this is claimed, it would have taken much longer than 24 hours.  It just goes to show how important it is to get a till receipt.
