HCx distance measurement way off.
« on: 10 June, 2008, 11:23:15 am »
Hi all

When I upload my .gpx file to Bikely etc the overall distance covered seems to be accurate - I am finding this .gpx file the most useful output from the device.

However, on the device itself the odometer gives me complete rubbish, e.g. 3 or 4 times the actual distance covered. Any advice as to settings etc to minimise this?

Re the trip odometer, does this start from zero every time you stop?

On my 60CSx, both the trip and main odometer only reset when told to (Info page -> Menu -> Reset).
I get a long list of settings that will be reset. On mine, trip resets but odo doesn't by default. There's somewhere to set the defaults but I can't remember where without looking.

But what are the limits for a "trip", how does it differ from the full odometer, or what tells it to start and stop?

BTW re the main issue, distance measurement, this is not a failure to zero anything - I can actually watch it over-reading.

Mine doesn't do this.  Trip distances are pretty much spot on.

That's weird.

Maybe I just didn't zero it all correctly after all.

Current speed always seems plausible and matches well with my computer, when available  ::-)
