Saving a route in Google Maps

How do you save the route you have made in Google Maps? OK I can link to a map I've made, and I know about GMaptoGPX (which by the way is not working very well for me, again), but how do I just get the map I've created to appear in My Maps in Google Maps itself? When I create a map, and then name it and save it, all I appear to be saving is the bloody name - I cannot open a map from it.

Will do! I think I saw where I was going wrong.

Edit: although I can now do this, it is not useful as GMap to GPX will not work in Googlemap's My Maps, only when you are not logged in.
