Went to the doctor this morning for the results of my blood tests. Scored high for some enzyme (probably AST but I can't remember) on the liver function test, apparently - classic sign of drinking too much. Not entirely surprised, just glad that all the other tests came back with more positive results (cholesterol level was in normal range, which was a pleasant surprise). Anyway, I'd call that a fairly good incentive to carry on with Dry January. Going back in a month for further tests to see if it has returned to normal.
I've been very good so far - had my first real test of will at the weekend when we visited family friends who tried to ply me with booze. I resisted. Had another social occasion yesterday - lunch with colleagues - and was expecting to turn up and find everyone on the beers, but in fact a few of them are also doing Dry January or are on fitness regimes, so we were all very good and abstemious, which made it easier.
Going out with friends on Friday evening for pub & curry. That's going to be a challenge.
