Truck driver jailed for 18mths for failing to secure a load

What a disproportionate world we live in, where you can run a cyclist down from behind and not even face a prosecution until a private case is pursued (and then get off), versus the truck driver who has been jailed for 18 months for failing to secure a heavy load which mashed into a bus and caused a number of injuries, some serious.

Beeb story.

Now I know every case is different, and courts will take any number of factors into account, but it's hard not to reach the conclusion (over and over again) that there's something desperately wrong with the current process.

But we knew that anyway. I despair.

Failing to secure a load is a standard thing, and black and white so easily proven. Failing to look in front of you is more woolly, though I agree with you it shouldn't be.
