The DPB 200 http://www.aukweb.net/events/detail/17-575/
205km cycling event starting from The Steyning Centre, Steyning, W Sussex at 08:00am.

Controls at Thursley, Pease Pottage, Steyning and Horsham, plus 4 information controls.

An extended ride to the Devils Punchbowl, Hindhead avoiding Glenlea, followed by an El Supremo control near Thursley, before continuing on to Crawley, and then returning TWICE to Steyning.

Entry fee covers food at start, manned controls and finish. No entries on the line.

Stage 1 (64k) Initially leaving Steyning on the A283 through Storrington and towards Petworth, before crossing onto quieter minor roads / country lanes through Greatham and Coldwaltham. After crossing the A29 we remain on minor roads / country lanes towards Selham and Graffham, before joining the A286 to Midhurst and the climb to Fernhurst. In Fernhurst we're back on minor roads / country lanes leading to the climbs at Lynchmere and Hammer Vale. No Glenlea for the 200, and having passed under the A3, we ride on the new road alongside the A3 into and beyond Hindhead. After Hindhead we are on the QUITE LANE (no cars) around the Devils Punchbowl to the Thursley Control.

Stage 2 (55k) From the Thursley control we continue on minor roads /country lanes through Thursley, Elstead, Milford, Cranleigh, Ewhurst, Rusper, Faygate and Colgate, before arriving at Pease Pottage to the south of Crawley, and a services control.

Stage 3 (39k) Retracing from Pease Pottage and continuing on minor roads / country lanes we skirt Horsham via Bucks Head, and after the first climb of Kerves Lane we continue on minor roads / country lanes through Southwater, Brooks Green, Coolham, Ashington and Wiston. After Wiston we have a 3 km stretch on the A283 back to Steyning for a feed or alternatively a slightly longer return via country lanes.

Stage 4 (24k) No rest for the wicked having only completed 158Km, so we return to Horsham, still on minor roads / country lanes, via Partridge Green, Littleworth, Maplehurst and Copsale before a descent of Kerves Lane, but.......

Stage 5 (24k) The final leg is a retace of Stage 4, but this starts with the second and final climb of Kerves Lane, before continuing through Copsale, Maplehurst and Partridge Green to the Arrivee in Steyning.

NOTE For 2018 the plan is to change the route to remove the need to return to Horsham for Stages 4 and 5.

Appears that route sheet and gps track of the DPB 100 was loaded against the DPB 200 in error. Now corrected.

Reminder that entries to both the DPB 100 and 200 close on July 11th 2017

All,

A gentle reminder that entries for both the The Devils Punchbowl 100 and 200 Rides closes on July 11th.

Also today (01/07/17) I've uploaded a slightly amended version of the DPB 200 Routesheet to correct some typo noted during route checking. The GPS Track appears to be correct.

Regards

Anton

For those none starters who advised me they would DNS owing to illness, get better soon

The weather was ideal, although slightly overcast, it remained warm and dry.

Feedback
I would welcome any comments on how the event could be improved next year.  (Note I’m already planning the route change to remove the final loop back to Horsham)

Thanks to all involved in the event. As always a pleasure even if my own stupidity means I did not finish! Still 150km so not too bad in the sun

For me the challenge was as much psychological as physical, having to leave the comfort of the organisers well-stocked picnic area with almost 100 miles up, for a 50k round trip to discover the uncertain delights on sale on Horsham Tesco Express.

Many thanks Anton, Dave and Richard for organising a tough but rewarding ride.

Inspired by a recent episode of "I'm Sorry, I Haven't A Clue" and a recent headline in the local rag, criticising Tesco for attempting to build a convenience store in a local village and bang opposite an existing Sainsbury's store, perhaps their slogan should be "Very Little Helps!"

As Anton writes upthread, this will not be a problem next year when we look forward to seeing all the riders again for another enjoyable day awheel
At the end of the day, when all's said and done, there's usually a lot more said than done.

On this weekends DPB 200 a pair of arm warmers were found at the Rusper info control and handed in at the end. Any takers?
