Kempen-Usedom-Berlin-Kempen Tour 2017
« on: 03 June, 2017, 07:07:55 am »
In about an hour's time I'm setting off on an 1800km tour over two weeks to the Baltic Sea on the border with Poland, then to Berlin and back here (on the western border of Germany 15km from the Netherlands.

My partner Klaus is coming with me and we will be riding our Velomobiles.

I plan to write daily blog posts and you can see them here: http://www.auntiehelen.co.uk/kempen-usedom-berlin-kempen-tour-2017/

Thanks for the write up, it's interesting to hear about a velomobile tour!

re the chain, I wondered if one could be built with belt drive - no oil?

Also at 25C, what's the ventilation like compared to an ordinary tourer?

I have derailleur gears so a belt drive wouldn't work.

Ventilation isn't a problem when you're at cruising speed (35-40 on/h) but up long, slow hills and when stopped at traffic lights it heats up. I have a Naca duct to let air in, Klaus has two foot holes and that pushes enough air through too (I have one foot hole which I can close if I want). Ventilation is less of a problem than you would expect.

I enjoyed reading your tour report, because,
1. It inspired me to do a similar tour, north Germany to Berlin.
2. I was impressed by the distances and speed you managed on your velomobiles, or you may just be very fit. I fancy a go in one.
3. I like pictures of cake.
