I'm suffering from a bit of Wowbaggeritis, as I've of not heard of serveral of those people.

I say go for Mo. He's long overdue a SPOTY win....

Edit: I do feel the need to argue about whether running is a sport or not. It is traditional after all  :P
Those wonderful norks are never far from my thoughts, oh yeah!

Much as as I'd like our tremendously successful women's cricket team to get recognition, Shrubsole won't podium.
I give you the more realistic shortlist.

Mo Farah - Athletics
Chris Froome - Cycling
Lewis Hamilton - F1
Anthony Joshua - Boxing
Harry Kane - Football
Johanna Konta - Tennis
Jonnie Peacock - Para-athletics

Probably the Lewis Hamilton bloke.
Admission.  I'm actually not that fussed about cake.

When is the vote? Is there time for our Ashes team to win the next 3 tests and sneak in??

My predictions, in order:
Joseph to win [he's the flipping World Heavyweight Boxing CHamp! and seems very likeable]
Hamilton - multiple WDC after a "setback" last year. And he has a following, like him or not ...
Mo - since 2012 athletics has been popular again in Briton. And Mo is our big star currently
Froome - as the people-who-dont-really-like-sport [aka Cyclists] don't have anyone else to vote for. but he won't win, too dull.

In reality, someone else will win who I've never heard of, from a sport I don't watch.

Note that Hemingway would only approve of the top two. #justsaying

Phone vote. On the night. Something like a 30 minute period.

Sadly 'they' nominate the short list, proles don't get a look in.

Pity we can't get Rick Astley, that might be fun.  :)

Yes it is. But driving a car is not.

Given that he's actually Kenyan, shouldn't Froome be considered for 'Overseas SPOTY'?

How BBC is that? Nothing screams 'Old Skool BBC prejudice' than the title of 'Someone who isn't British but actually might quite good at something despite that'.

???   What prejudice ?  I don't get your comment at all.

I wanted Shrubsole to get it based on the late night preview show I caught the other night to wind down after working late.

She got it with her team though.

83,000 votes gets you a 2017 chartopper. That’s fewer than the no 1 single needs in a single week.
It is simpler than it looks.

Andy Murray won his 3rd spoty with a mere 247,000 odd votes.

Not bad for someone with no personality.

The "Passed away this year" section also featured Mike Hall. http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/sports-personality/42182257

What a strange set of results. I'm not tooo surprised by the Farah win, but 2nd & 3rd are a surprise.
Biggest shock was the horrendous sponsors logos on Mo's socks. Total lack of class

If I was Chris Froome, AND if I cared about SPOTY, AND if I reckoned I had any chance of winning ... I'd be a bit peeved that noone else got a live grilling over indiscretions. Strange decision by the Beeb there (and I'm no Froome fan).

He got off very lightly though. A grilling by Clare Balding is hardly  the Spanish Inquisition is it?
She spends the whole of her life being nice to people. Listen to her radio stuff- all cucumber sandwiches and lashings of tea.
SPOTY is for entertainment not a  serious investigative journalism platform.

Not so strange.  He was front page news a few days ago for his failed test/adverse whatever.  Not very ignoreable.
