I can't see the point of the bridge being raised to high.  The far bank appears slightly higher, but surely a flat ramp would have sufficed.  or do miniature sailing ships need to pass under the bridge?
Probably so it doesn't get washed away in floods.

Isn't it so small children can hide underneath and say 'who's that trip-trapping over MY bridge?'

That's probably the intention, but the quality of the construction of the path makes me think that when it does flood - and I think it will - the path will vanish leaving a bridge to nowhere.

They've put the ramp on the wrong side, too.  Brits tend to be used to pushing their bike from the left.
If it's wrong going up, it's right coming down and vice versa. Either a ramp each side or a single ramp in the middle with steps each side. We can dream!

In Birmingham, we have a set with three ramps to choose from: http://www.birminghamcyclist.com/forum/topics/new-canal-access-at-five-ways?commentId=3004025%3AComment%3A167319

??? I see one on each side (and a train ticket dropped on the ground).

If you look carefully on the far left (compare with the far right, where there isn't one) you can see the original ramp, positioned so that the handrail blocks the handlebars of any normal-shaped bike.  It has an excellent grippy surface, but was basically unusable.  Once this (and the left-handed wheeling thing) were pointed out, the other two were retrofitted.

Hull, multiple bridgery. Millennium footbridge The grey strip. Hull tidal barrier, and behind that Myton road bridge. All this time and I've only just noticed the green statue figure in shot, above the cyclist on the right.

Pedant alert-that's Lendal Bridge, though it's Station Road crossing it .
Even the river bridge nearest the station isn't called Station bridge-it's called Scarborough Bridge , because the railway tracks that it carries go to the seaside town.
