Now onto the Oud Beersel. That was a bit too exciting. Hadn't even finished untwisting the wire when the cork launched itself off the ceiling and the floor and I got showered in beer. At least there's a bit less to drink now...

It's not really sour in the same way as the last 2, more acidic maybe.  Plenty of froth (!), cherries ok.

And now De Cam Kriek.
The cherry taste is quite subtle. This beer is the first one to make either of us make 'the gueze face',  ie it's got the most sour aftertaste. Still think the Hanssens is gonna beat it though.

It was a bit fountainy coming out of the bottle, but it didn't try to launch the cork through the ceiling.

Nicely sour. Cherry a bit understated.

Finally the last one. Probably a similar level of sour as the De Cam. Cherry a bit more obvious. Almondy smell.

So.
Although there are subtle differences between them all, I think this is the most closely matched Kriek tasting we've ever done. They're all up at the sour end of the scale.
I wouldn't refuse to drink any of them, although I won't buy the Intense Red again if I have the choice.

I'll keep buying the Oude Boon as it's relatively easy to get hold of and easy to drink. Cantillon is always something to fall back on. In fact they were all fine.... I have attained peak kriek  ;D

Yes, I enjoyed following the journey last night, but it has gone very quiet.

Cup of coffee?

We're fine! Just having a lazy lie in now that the temperature has dropped from yesterday's 12°C to SNO.

I need to mop the kitchen floor today, keep finding more pink bits...

I've got a bottle of the Oud Beersel that I'm opening this week, think I'll do it in the garden after seeing yours.

I went over to Ghent for the 6 day last month and found this shop - http://www.drankengeers.be/site/en on the outskirts of Ghent.  Good selection (Cantillon, Westvleteren Blonde, 8 and 12 and lots of 'craft' stuff).  Prices only marginally higher than a beer warehouse (with more standard selection) we stopped at near French border.

I only like the sour krieks. I did a bottle of Beavertown / Mikeller / Arizona Wilderness Sour Power in sympathy and it was very good – not strictly a kriek, but a barrel-aged sour with cherries and red currants. Rather splendid.

Good to know. Going to Ghent for 2017's pootling holiday with my brother.

I have a Sam Smith's cherry beer on the shelf, will give you feedback. The raspberry one was very good.

Reminding me, we still have that beer appointment in Aberdeen to schedule.

It's not kriek but earlier I had a bottle of Victory Kirsch Gose which was very acceptable :P

Drank my Samuel Smith's Cherry organic beer yesterday, by no means a kriek, but pleasant. Smelt a bit benylyn-like, fruity enough, tasted not a million miles away from those cherry flavoured boiled sweets I had as a kid.

I'd drink it again.
