Xubuntu on Mac
« on: 21 April, 2008, 04:51:12 pm »
Has anyone else tried this?

I've installed Xubuntu onto an external hard drive. OS X of course now refuses to recognise it :(

How do I tell the Mac  to boot from the external (firewire) drive?

The next stage will be to set up a dual boot on my main disk - is there a non-destructive way to do this? I'm running a PPC Mac under 10.4 so I don't think that I can use Boot Camp.

Of course I could always reformat but that seems very drastic.

I set my MacBook up for triple boot with rEFIt, although I only got round to installing Ubuntu along with OSX.  Works very nicely indeed, and the repartitioning is non-destructive (or you can offload all data and do a fresh partition/reinstall).

No idea about PPC Mac / Bootcamp.

I used the following guide, which should be also be valid for (Intel) MacMini, Mac Desktop, etc... https://help.ubuntu.com/community/MacBook

Solved that with using Option-Cmd-Shift-Del at boot to select a boot disk. Who says Macs aren't intuitive :)

Now all I need to do is to get the WPA working and I can connect to the internet :)
