Clonk clonk clonk

That's the sound I've been making this weekend.

1st time, broken spoke on the rear wheel. Noticed that the back brake was rubbing when I got the bike out. Wheel was out of true. Clonk clonk as I spun it around. Broken spoke.

2nd time, got the geared bike out. First time out of the shed this year. The clonk clonk sound was my peddling with a free-wheel. Looks like I'm not pushing the pedals all the way around now, and I was expecting the fixed gear action to push my legs around. The clonk noise was the sudden push against the action of the free-wheel.

I was very worried about stopping peddling. Consciously stopping peddling was like trying to poke yourself in the eye. You know you could do it, but your body just doesn't want to let you.

I've just got to decide now. Do I fix the spoke on this cheep wheel I bought, or just bite the bullet and get a better rear wheel now I know I'll be sticking with fixed?

I think I might do both, well it's always good to have a spare.

You can put a studded tyre on the spare, ready for the next snow and ice in... ooh... err... 2013?

That's what I'm going to do. anyway!
