While I'm in no doubt that Fox is a twat of the highest order and re-posting revealing photos of other people (no underwear stepping out of a car if I understand correctly) is the mark of an absolute arse in need of a shoeing, I had the misfortune to read some of the X exchasnges between the parties concerned. My god, do people really go on like that?  All part of the 24 hour celebrity, must get likes, poisonous culture we have these days I guess.

(Fox is apparently now being investigatedby the rozzers for re-posting the picture. Good)

Audax / Single to Southport

The Single to Southport is a really gentle 100km ride, that taken in the sunshine with a friend is a wonderful experience. Peak Audax do it again!

I've never ridden a "group perm" before... so when Mike emailed to say he was heading out and that coincided with my day off... I was entered immediately. Door-to-door rail service from Slaithwaite to Staylbridge, and a day out in the sunshine ending with a wonderful view of Blackpool from the south bank of the Ribble, and dinner alfresco before a train ride back home. The tailwind certainly helped the day feel easy.

Don't bother with the flour, use (some of) the oil the fish has been sitting in, add garlic, olives, bit of chilli, maybe some red pepper, capers if you like, good bit of tomato. Not really a puttanesca, so I'd probably put it with potato (cubed, fried/roasted - air fryer ideal), but works with pasta

Returning from a short ride, Zeppy the cat ran across the road in front of me carrying a rabbit and jumped over the wall into the garden.
By the time I got into the house, the rabbbit was headless in the utility room.
Delivered a short lecture about "Why don't you catch some of the rabbits living in the garden?"
TBF, she did catch 3 yesterday, and a rabbit and a rat the day before....

While I was riding up the long hill, a short-eared owl was hunting over the fell. Possibly the male of a pair I saw a while ago. I watched till it went over a fold in the hill, then as I rode on it was sitting on a fence post near the road waiting for me!
Going down the other side, I was unaware of a rider behind me as I jinked and stopped to make sure a red squirrel sitting on the verge didn't decide to cross the road. I doubt the other rider even saw it.
After coffee and scone at the Hemmel (highly recommended), I set off back up the hill and saw 3 reds chasing each other about. And a second viewing of the SEO.
Most of the Upland Assemblage present and abundant.
And the sand martins are back!

Thanks  I heard an urban myth that a respected female AUK member set BPs up in the UK only

Indeed, Sheila was a big part of introducing BPs in the UK, amongst a variety of awards and concepts, some of which were novel e.g. RRTY, DIY perms. Some concepts died after a while e.g. gold and silver standards for long distance perms, Sea-to-Summit perms.

Anyway, I think it's nice that the practice of not bothering with the arrival time for the intermediate controls that has been practice in the Netherlands since at least 2017 is now official policy.

I was just going to say that this change simply recognises the de facto position of most events.

Just for completeness, this rule change recognises the de facto position now. I have seen at PBP and at a 1200 in Oz where several riders out of time at intermediate controls have had their brevet cards confiscated, preventing the riders from finishing officially if they continued. At other brevets in Oz, I have seen brevets not validated for being out of time at intermediate controls despite the riders being in time at the finish. Those instances were over a decade ago now.

I find it amusing that the official rules for Fleche Velocio (and by extension similar national versions e.g. Easter Arrow to York) do not allow teams to spend more than 2 hours at any intermediate control, to keep riders moving along their route and minimising rest/ sleep. At the same time, ACP's intermediate control opening and closing times are now advisory, potentially maximising the opportunity for rest/ sleep. There seems to be a clash of philosophies between those rules.

PBP - many people finished despite being out of time at intermediate controls.
I personally have been outside time at one control on rides in UK, Belgium and Netherlands and had them validated, this typically happens at the first control after waking up on the last day. People would not officially say that intermediate times were not important, but no one really cared. I don't think I have ever been refused validation for an intermediate control time non compliance.

GPS / Etrex 32x slow map display?

HK bought me an Etrex32x to replace an Etrex 30x damaged during my Mumbai transit. I have set it up similarly to my previous Etrex, map continuously on, based on franklyfrankie's guide. The problem is that the map takes a long time to realign when I go round a corner and the map even blanks out partially or completely for varying durations. The display itself is still working.

Is this a known bug, is there something weird in my set up and is there an easy way to get this new Etrex to perform at least as well as my previous Etrex?
