Title: Standard gear cable reach front mech of Tandem?
Post by: LittleSkink on 01 May, 2017, 10:33:36 am
I have just started recabling our tandem and bought 2 tandem specific gear cables to do the job - the front mech is done now but, from the waste cable I cut off, it looks to me like a normal length cable would have worked

For next time, or to help others with similar query - does standard gear cable length work for front mech?

IME a standard geat cable will be fine for the front mech based upon my experience of two machines.

On our tandem, when we had a front mech, a standard cable was too short by just a few cm. The only standard cable is the front brake cable, all others are tandem length.  I have to say that our tandem was built for a very tall captain. Maybe on a tandem built for a smaller captain, a standard cable will be long enough.

thanks folks - if/when the job needs doing again I will try a standard inner first, makes me feel a bit better about ordering the tandem specific cables now
