Dorchester - which sation to use Sout or West

In view of tomorrows weather we have a back up plan of stopping at Dorchester & getting a train back to Fareham

Dorchester appears to have the luxury of two stations

Any suggestions on whether there is a benefit from using one over the other?

All trains to Fareham listed on the National Rail website seem to depart from Dorchester South.

IIRC the stations are only about ¼ mile apart.

I would choose the station which serves trains to my destination myself...

They're on different lines. Dorchester South is the one you want for trains towards Southampton.

Update - Back up plan was put into play

I did try to look the answer up myself but was tight on time & couldn't see what I needed to know. Was hoping someone would be able to give a quick definitive answer.

By Dorchester I was riding solo and soaked after 5 hours of heavy rain, so being able make a quick supermarket stop then knowing which station to head to was really helpful.

Typically the rain ceased within minutes of me stopping riding.
