Has anyone had experience of hiring a van or can recommend a company that rents these out?

Cheers,

Depending upon size of vehicle it is not uncommon to pay £750 per week in high season.

We hired this van last summer. As Alan said it was about £700 for the week. The company, who are based in Biggleswade, were fine to deal with but we didn't have any problems with the van that might have tested that a bit harder.

Sign of the fact that my friends and I are getting old is that last year a couple of friends paid a ridiculous sum to hire a motorhome so that they could have comfort and hot showers at Glastonbury!

The price sounds about right.

I saw these people. Did you have to pick it up from there?

They do offer delivery but not in high season and only up to 20 miles from their base, which is restrictive enough to be pretty useless unless you

(a) live nearby, and
(b) have no car yourself.

As we were heading to Lancashire it didn't matter to us as it was all in the right direction.

There are These people nearer to you. I don't have any experience of them though.

We hired a big one about fifteen years ago from a place in Derby, I can't remember the name, sorry.

However, it was a wonderful family holiday - probably the best we ever had. We toured around England for two weeks with four small children. Most of the time we were just visiting scattered friends and relatives, but some days in the New Forest and also in London were very special.

The cost seems astronomic, but not when you calculate the per-person-per-day rate.

Yes, I Googled them and thought they were pricey - until I Googled some more..

Do you have to stay at campsites or is just a case of 'pulling over' somewhere?

I sold my Camping car last month.Ten years ,the dog and i toured Europe. We can no longer go abroad and i don't like camping in the UK.

Have a look in the newsagents and flip through MMM (Motorhome Monthly Magazine) toward the back many firms offer hire of larger Motorhomes.
A VW base can be very small and pokey if the weather is wet and miserable.

It is possible to hire on the Continent more cheaply than in U.K.

It is no longer very easy to simply park and sleep in this country, poor behavior by a few has led to an increase in by laws. The sophistication of many new motorhomes mean that unless you are plugged in nothing works.
