York-Fryupdale

Not a long trip by most people's reckoning, but a bit hilly for my York legs.

I volunteered to help on a week-long school trip to Fryupdale and the North Yorkshire outdoor sports team. The kids and their teacher were travelling up in parent's cars, but I opted to cycle over. This put a bit of pressure on, as it meant I *had* to be there by 11am at the latest.

The route is very simple; straight north from York to Sheriff Hutton, then via Hovingham to Hutton-le-hole and Blakely ridge. The Howardian hills are the hardest bit, with chunks of 1 in 6, one after the other.  The night before setting off I changed my block for an 11-32 and put an old 8-speed XT changer. This didn't like 9-speed at all and I had to wrestle with the gears all the time. Might just be the spring is a bit worn.

Blakely ridge road is great - not steep, just a gentle grind with the view expanding and expanding.

More to follow, with some pictures.
