My Ribble has been nicked
« on: 23 January, 2011, 09:35:10 am »
As has been mentioned elsewhere, my bike was stolen after the Little Willy 100.  It's been flagged stolen on immobilise.com, the police have all the relevant information, etc.  I'd be grateful if you kind people can keep an eye out for it.  Details are given below.

I'd like to thank everyone for their kind words, and offers, both here and privately.  I still have my commuter, but that will limit the extent of my audaxing.  Special thanks to Adamski, TimHall and Von Broad who rode around the area looking for the bike, and VB for driving me up to Amersham station.

It was stolen from outside the Chalfont St. Peter Community Centre on Saturday, 22nd January 2011, between 15:30 and 16:00.

So sorry to hear this Andrij - we all leave bikes outside at audaxes and I always worry. I hope it turns up somewhere.

Bum.

Oddly (and absolutely no help) on Thursday morning I caught sight of a Ribble in front of me on the Romford Road. Gave it a bit of wellie to overtake, only to discover it wasn't you. But you knew that.

Don't suppose it will be back on this side of town, but I'll look - just have to make sure I don't accost too many strangers.

I heard a bike had been half inched.
It'll either be dumped in the canal or they'll try and sell it.
I'd try eBay and the local Cash Converter type of shops first. Probably worth checking every once in a while for a few months too. They might keep it for a while before selling it.

Now, if you rode a fixed....

Bugger, it's really awful when a bike you've sorted out to suit yourself is stolen. Hope you get it back - was it insured?

Really bad news and unlucky. That hall has been used for years for Audax and CTC events and I don't recall a bike being stolen before.

The football match will have finished during the period it was stolen. I heard Chalfont were playing Hanwell, so possible it went into a car headed back for West London.
I'll look in the south Bucks Cash Converters shops each week for the next few and let them know I 'want to buy a bike'.

Sorry to hear that. Hopes for speedy return. Do you have the frame number? I'm Canada bound but if you don't will see if I kept a note

I don't imagine it'll come this far north, but I'll keep a lookout in any case. What a pisser.

I just read this tread and I'm really angry -possibly because I rode my blue Ribble on the Little Willy yesterday too and possibly because I live near by but mostly because I hate the idea that I live in a part of the World where a passing scrote fancies his or her chances enough to nick a bike in broad daylight in a busy car park when there are people milling around.

I'll keep an eye out.

Can't believe there are people in CSP going round in a van with a set of bolt crops, cutting locks and robbing bikes. Hope you get your bike back.

I'm probably taking the troll-bait here, but typically at an Audax start/finish, it's extremely rare to lock a bike at all and even if it is locked it's usually just to itself as an immobiliser (but even that's about as common as tits on a fish).

That sucks a big one.  >:(

It's the first time I've heard of a bike being stolen at the start/finish of an audax.   I'm sure ther eare other occurrences, but I've not come across them yet.

Any idea whether it was ridden off or carried off?

I might have to start carrying a decent lock on audaxes :(
