That's an interesting idea. Perhaps see what the weather looks like and consider how much stuff I'll be carrying. Warm camping might make everything too heavy for a long ride like that.

I'm going to camp - but I'm planning on bringing every piece of warm camping gear I can find. Duvet + Sleeping bag + roll mat + inflatable roll mat + pillow + extra clothes. I'll need to practice packing onto the bike - I think it'll be fully loaded!

I'm also expecting to camp and may borrow Sue's warmer sleeping bag for the night.

Will be a steady ride up.

I think we've me, Graeme, sojournermike, bunbury, D.A.L.E. boab and possibly Mr Smith, and ramcityrocker's expressed an interest, and also Debs (NOTP). I promise to do another set of awards, and I may even organise prizes this time.

Anyone else? It's gorgeous up there in winter. The low sun (and it's never high at that time of year) reveals the cuts and scars in the landscape in a way you don't see at any other time of year.

That was a cold night - Sleightholme Beck had frozen when I nipped back down the track to Darlo in the morning.

Ah go on then, you've talked me in to it! :-)

I'll be booking a bed in one of the bunk rooms though, slipped disks and camping mattresses don't mix very well at the best of times (last time I camped, I could barely walk the following morning!)

I was talking to The Current Mrs R about Tan Hill the other evening. The fact that Tan Hill is within cycling distance of Stow House, Aysgarth is massively positive. TCMR loves Stow House, as do I, so I think the two things can be combined.

Thank goodness soneone's booked one - if it's properly cold then you'll have several people taking refuge on your floor

:o

Might have to rethink my camping gear and see if I can fit a warmer sleeping bag in my pannier.

Myself, Graeme and Yorkie are booked into the 6 bunk dorm.  There are only three spots left if you wanna be one of the cool kids!  The 8 bunk dorm is COMPLETELY EMPTY though, so there's plenty of space if you want to hang out with the losers instead.

What time do you plan to leave Darlo Dean?
Does your route there and back involve any COR?

Brilliant! It'll be great to have you along, Steve.

Yes to both - lots of offroad on the route I've vaguely planned there. It'll be the Sleightholme track, some other tracks, and hopefully a visit to God's Bridge. I've been to the Devil's Bridge, so I feel I should complete the set.

I was thinking of setting off at 9-ish to take the full day, second breakfast in Barnie, and get there in good time to pitch the tent in daylight. Dunno if any of that works for you - I'm not planning anything mega-technical, but I don't know the trails apart from Sleightholme (which you can do on pretty much any bike). I expect some trudging across bogs.

Sleightholme track again on the way back.

Ta Dean.
I will skip coming up to Darlo and keep to the tarmac.
Hopefully win the KOM prize by riding up from Menston.

I booked before I saw this :)

I'm COR-ing from Bish-Vegas. Train to Bish, Bash across the moors. What could possibly go wrong?

There were only 2 places left when I booked, so I was wondering who had booked the other bed.

I'm riding up from Harrogate, via tarmac, if you want to tag along. I'm not riding south to Menston first... Planning on riding across to Appletreewick and Grassington if they're on you're route, with breakfast a Kettlewell.
