On your travels then Ruthie?
There are two ways you can get exercise out of a bicycle: you can
"overhaul" it, or you can ride it.  (Jerome K Jerome)

It's possible to just see our bikes propped up on the ferry that goes from Earl's Cove to Saltery Bay in British Colombia.
What on earth am I doing here on this beautiful day?! This is the only life I've got!!

On MV Loch Seaforth, the shiny new Ullapool - Stornoway ferry.  New Walter tied up with a proper seafarer's knot:

Cromarty - Nigg ferry by madcow

As it says-wee ferry (2 cars at most)  from Cromarty at the tip of the Black Isle over to Nigg , site of a major rig construction and repair yard that looks like its working at about 10% of it's full capacity.
Several rigs moored in Cromarty Firth /Nigg Bay, either waiting for repairs or just redundant.
Not cheap at £5.50 a trip, but it makes a fine circuit from where we were staying last week at Rosemarkie, round by Invergordon,Alness and Dingwall .

Finally I can oblige. This is on the Krimpen to Kinderdijk ferry across Lek river, Kinderdijk is where loads of windmills (and tourists) are. On a circuit of the big rivers around here, it's par for the course, because it's on the way to a favorite coffee stop.

Saphira enjoying the view off the Harwich to Felixstowe ferry, from her comfy seat in the bow.

Ferry photos by John Jackson, on Flickr

The Felixstowe end is at a (deep) shingle beach, 50 yards or so of pushing, wheel tracks just in shot.

Later that day, my first crossing at Reedham. As shown in a few previous postings :)

re: Harwich to Felixstowe ferry

Well I never! We lived in Bury St Edmunds from 2015 to 2010 and visited Felixstowe on many occasion. We loved the fort (as we has English Heritage membership) the beach and the town... and the market!

We visited the north and the pedestrian ferry but did not know that there was a Harwich ferry! I would have loved to have crossed and visited...  :(

Quite impressed that you managed to get Saphira on and off the boat, let alone up the shingle to firmer ground!

Thanks! Well there were 2 crew and me to do the lifty bit - and I went on the first, quiet crossing, 9am I think. The shingle, ah the shingle. It was a tad draggy! Cyclist legs, y'know. A bit Ernie Wise though  ;)

I can confirm that a Sprint fits down the narrow gangway. I did fold the mirrors though.

2. Isle of Wight - the temporary ferry at Cowes whilst the chain ferry is being replaced, March 2017
