About 2 inch in North Dorset (home) but nearer the coast (work) just wet. Marathon Winter studs are on the MTB which were no better than the knobblies in the snow tbh, but without 'guards it's like someone pouring iced water down my overshoes for an hour. More purchasing to be done - some 26" 'guards - I hope the winter hangs around long enough for me to get my moneys worth out of all this specialist kit.

I'm racing up the yACF Bikejournal table though, so I guess you Larndoners are having it rough. ;)

I think London has not had much snow, and what it's had has melted much faster than elsewhere.

It's the southern home counties which have suffered, plus, of course, the North of England, which starts with Suffolk.

Saarfend hasn't had it so bad. A couple of significant falls but it has mostly gone now.

I would imagine that today's south-westerlies are the first stage in sweeping the cold air away.

We haven't been badly hit round these parts , about an inch I'd say , less than last time but still enough to bring the rail system to its knees.

Oh, bless.

The main roads have been gritted (grut?  gritten?) but not the little residential ones, and this morning as I wandered from the tube to the Salt Mines, I came across a little group of sad looking pikeys trying to move their pikeywagon, which was comprehensively stuck (with one wheel on the pavement).  Being a helpful sort ;D I joined the little group of spectators to give helpful advice.

I don't know why people find it so peculiar that the short girl in the sparkly hat and snoflake mittens would be the one who knows third gear will work better than first.

Not much sno here, but difficult to get through.  Motor traffic gridlocked.  Taxi unable to get up the hill to get Superstoker to school.  We walked/freewheeled down to town in the hope that the roads were better.  Riding on the snow was fine, but roads travelled by any sort of number ofvehicles had a nasty uneven layer of ice.  Not sure if anything was gritted really.

I nearly bottled it completely when a car lost traction behind me and I had images of being flatternd.

But the choice, as explained by Butterfly was 'Do we go home & have a cup of tea, or carry on and find out how far we get before we fall over?'  ;D

We had another couple of inches I guess, I managed to drive to work, but the 24 miles took 1 1/2 hrs. Now there appears to be a queue from Bicester all the way back to Aylesbury, so I'll have to sit it out for a while at work, but intend to leave around 2pm to make sure I get home in daylight if possible.

About another 1-2 cm in Luton overnight, although it's still falling.  However, that was just enough to cover over the slush, meaning the studs on the tyres gripped perfectly.

It was really nice to cycle 3 miles down the middle of the A1081 from Luton, passing all the gridlocked cars.  Another cyclist had obviously had the same idea a bit earlier, but they must have been on normal tyres (or drunk), as their tracks were very wobbly.  ;D

2-3" here in Penarth, all very slushy wet stuff. Most local schools closed much to Mrs g's delight.

Everybody is making an effort to get to work evidenced by number of cars and footprints on the pavement on the way to work.

At work, I suggested that as people had effectively had Wed, Thur and Fri off work that it wasn't unreasonable to request volunteers to come in with shovels and clear the car parks over the weekend so we could get back to normal asap.

My suggestion wasn't acted on - am I really unreasonable?

It's chaos in and around Oxford.  We had about 2 or 3 inches overnight and it has continued to snow all morning.
All bus services are suspended!  Mrs Nerd attempted to drive to work and had to abandon her car about a mile from home due to the road conditions and the queues of traffic.  She returned 45 minutes after setting off.
Luckily I can work from home!

The inch or so snow here was easy enough to get through this am I made good time 45min for 9 or so miles.

The office had forgotten to tell me that the course was not going ahead today. But 18 miles of fun in the snow :)

But if Gatwick is close tomorrow am I'm going to get rather annoyed. They can't have gotten more than 5in down there over night and it was closed this am.

We've had another good 4", with more in drifty bits, and it's still snowing and freezing in the valley.  The M48 Severn Bridge is closed too.

On the regional weather site it states: light rain.   ???

There is now a new 3" blanket of snow and it's still snowing.

Or at the very least, a window  ::-).  After all, if they can't tell what the weather is now, how the hell can they know what it will be tomorrow?

My first go in the snow today. Great fun. Only hairy moment was going down Coombe Hill. Surface there was icy whereas everywhere else was slush or fresh snow that the skinny tyres cut through without problem. The roads were clear yesterday so I was pretty confident that the new stuff wasn't hiding any icy patches.

Only moron-moment was the charming lady in a car who pulled a Uie (?) in front of me (so that she ended up going the same way as me). She was on the phone and it was a worrying second or two whilst I slowed down. I pulled alongside her and suggested (very politely) that she might want to stop using the phone. She woud her window down and exclaimed "Just f*ck off before I run you down you c*nt."

"But you just tried that madam." Is what I wished I had said, instead I simply pushed her wing mirror back. This prompted her to gun the engine and hurl herslef fowards to the back of the traffic jam 20 yards away.

I then took great delight in continuing to request that she put her phone down and clicking her windscreen wipers back so that they were left flailing fresh air.

Since I passed the bug I had last week to Kathy the car was a better bet than cycling.

The main roads around the town were jammed, the motorway was featured on the radio travel news, so set off on the country roads. Got up the first hill having ditched the traction control but didn't have an opportunity to get a run up at the second steeper one due to a car descending*. So spent a while applying the chains. Had to clear the way ahead by pushing some other cars** who were spinning merrily to themselves, but with chains on the roads presented no further challenges.

<still haven't had a chance to try out the new tyre I put on the back of the 'cheetah***>

*Last week in the SNO a car had been abandonned at the bottom of that bit on the verge by the side of the road. When the SNO melted a bit the car promptly slumped into the field which is below the level of the road coming to rest on its side. This morning there was another car resting against it in similar repose. Just here, yup that gentle right-hander was the problem.

**Ignored the RWD merc who after a bit of trying managed to get himself back to the correct side of the road, albeit without making any progress in his intended direction.

***Went into LBS and requested the best traction they could sell me.
