I'm liking the intellectual interludes in the ITV4 coverage. The Proustian meditation on Dan Martin's Tour was a fine example. The style of the Cav interview earlier on in the week was genuinely innovative.
I'll admit to having a slightly different perspective than many. Having ridden Audaxes and TTs, I can appreciate what the riders go through, although I've only ever ridden one road race. But I have done a lot of filming, and that involves scripting, making montages and handling interview footage.
The treatment of Brittany in the last couple of days has been exceptional. There has been a lot of very creative work by local groups to attract the camera's eye. The views of the Golfe de Morbihan were stunning.
The whole presentation, from the broadest of vistas, to Chris Boardman's technical insights, combines into a very attractive package. I'm glad to see the return of 'you've got to be in the first 20 in the peloton', as a commentating staple. I was missing that.
